A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.
The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.
Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.
South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.
Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

Great stay for sisters birthday, we crammed so much in over the weekend. We walked to Crown in 5mins, Holey Moley, Sth wharf boat hire and dinner close by. Went to the ballet at Capitol Theatre which was a short distance, and walked to the River front for dinner.

You cannot do Melbourne in one week, it will take many months of coming back for a week to start eating into your list of things to do, there is so much. What we did; Gold class at Crown seen Ballerina, Victoria night market - get there early, Third wave Cafe - go on an empty staving stomach, South Melbourne market, Melbourne Central shopping centre and Shot tower, Hearnes Hobbies on Flinders street, Warhammer games workshop Exhibiton street, Many drinks at Crown Casino, Lygon street for pizza and pasta, QV building Ippudo Japenese Ramen and many of other places. We squeezed this in 4 days or 5 nights. Because we drove a fairly big 4x4, we parked at long term Tullamarine airport $60 and got the Skybus return, buy your tickets online to save more. If you think you can park in the city with a decent 4x4, goodluck, most height limitations are 2.1m and no higher. There is outdoor parking at some locations at around $86 per day, ouch!

I liked the restaurants that we went to, Smith Street Bisto in Smith street Collingwood was a fabulous french restaurant and the Thai Fusion Restaurant just around the corner in Bourke Street called Bali Hai was the best , I had Khao Soi ,and Thai Milk Tea Tirimisu ,what a fantastic meal. The Secret Kitchen opposite was a total rip off and I would never go there again. Plenty of live theatre in exhibition street and the start of China Town is just outside Rydges Hotel

Rented this hotel last minutes for 11/2 day visit to Melbourne. Nice facility. Had a great view from the 27th floor. Hotel is located 500 m from the (central business district (CBD) which was very close to many attractions, bus, trains, shopping, dining etc. Located about 3-5 minutes from Yarra river. I ordered breakfast and that was delivered on time. Staff were very friendly and willing to help answer question on how to get around the city. Would def stay here again.
Superbly located close to Melbourne Airport and the complimentary shuttle to and from the airport was fantastic.
Room was beautiful with a big bath and walking-in shower, and the beds were really comfortable. Staff at reception and in the restaurant were top notch, and for a hotel, the restaurant food was good quality and very fairly priced compared to restaurants In Melbourne CBD.
Highly recommended.
Almost everything was fine except a prolonged internet "cut". The check in was fast and smily, the "special requests" were met. Travelodge Dockland is my "first choice" of hotel in Melbourne because of the perfect location allowing a smooth and easy transfer to/from the airport and basically walking distance to anywhere in the CBD!
Fantastic location to visit everywhere in Melbourne.
Just few minutes walk to Southern Cross station, bus stops and free trams for CBD.
The best part is just 5 mins walk from sky bus station which is the easiest way to enter city center from MEL airport.
The room is clean and comfort.
We really enjoyed the hotel, as it was located within the CBD of Melbourne. It is also strategically positioned close to the airport bus terminals and the free tram zones. Facilities such as the saunas and swimming from the hotels were great for end the night!
