Melbourne FAQs: Tips for every trip

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, where you can walk through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognizable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the color of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping center has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this isn't the city’s only sports heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules soccer and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodations from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

Great shopping, easy public transport, excellent facilities,...

Great shopping, easy public transport, excellent facilities, theatres, and interesting laneways and cafes. Choice of restaurants is great and Melbourne still has the best coffee in the world. One downside is that over the past 5 years the graffiti everywhere is expanding onto monuments, quality buildings and the city council is not cleaning up the city as they used to so Melbourne is deteriorating together with more homeless on the streets.

There's nothing wrong with the city but the businesses that involved in making the visitor impressed and love the city play big roll, my trip this time i feel like being rip off by the local accommodation provider and the big company like booking.com who we made our reservation. We are not in good hand by these kind of people, having this kind of trader will roth this city soon or later. Melbourne reputation will go down if visitor get treated bad and being scams.

Property is on the 11th floor, serviced by a very fast lift. It was well presented and is a comfortable walk to Heidelberg Station (about 600m walk) with a 35 minute train trip into the CBD. The connection to the airport via Uber/taxi is about 35-40 minutes. Our host met us at the apartments and was very helpful in settling us in and showing us the layout of the apartments. Recommend this property for anyone visiting Melbourne but does not want to stay in the City but with the convenience of a quick train service close by.

This apartment hotel is in a terrific location, right in the middle of the Melbourne CBD on tram routes in the middle of transport to the whole city. The rates seem very generous for all this but the devil is in the detail (see below). I have stayed here before and would stay again but it is important to be aware that you get wheat you pay for.
