Stanley may be a small town but it is one of the neatest tidy towns I've visited. The entire township is maintained to a very high standard so credit to the friendly residents. There is plenty to see both in the township and the surrounding area. It is easy to walk from place to place, except perhaps for the walk to the top of the Nut, which may be challenging for older people. The alternative chairlift provides superb views of the surrounding area on the way down. The Nut is Stanley's major attraction and the views from the top are stunning, as is the native flora and fauna. Be aware the it can be quite windy too - watch out for hats! There are two beautiful sandy beaches within easy walking distance and and several historic buildings. As a quiet peaceful place to get away from everyday life, it is near perfect. One thing that visitors need to know is that Stanley 'opening' hours may be a little later than they may find in larger towns - 9.30-10.00 am, although I see this as a positive as it adds to its quiet peaceful old worldly charm. There are many places to stay although we stayed at Stanley Hotel, itself an interesting older style building full of charm, although access to the upper floors appears to be by stairs only. The staff were friendly, informative, and helpful, the food and service at the restaurant was excellent, and our room was clean, quiet and comfortable. I would highly recommend it.

We loved the character, history and how tastefully decorated The Ship Inn was. The gardens at the back with The Nut as a backdrop were immaculate and well designed on a slope. There were seating areas to take in the views. It was by far the loveliest place to stay as it had everything - immaculate luxury comfort, a historical pretty town and sea views everywhere.

Beautiful town with a quaint, well kept main street.
Beautiful town with a quaint, well kept main street. A variety of unusual shopfronts. Unfortunately, none of these were open by the time we arrived. Sensational views from the top of The Nut and 2km walk around the headland was great.
The Stanley Hotel does wonderful things with locally sourced produce. Marley's Cafe for breakfast is a gastronomic sensation. The vibe in both these places is relaxed and friendly. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Stanley is a unique location with a rich history.
Stanley is a unique location with a rich history. Staying at the Ship Inn helped us to appreciate this location and its history. Excellent eating places within easy walking distance - Stanley Hotel provided a very enjoyable meal; Hurseys is a must visit with great seafood dishes, with an array of other options. Stanley is very easy to get around both on foot and by car. Only one bowser for petrol provided a challenge, but is easily managed. A great place to visit.

Nicely set up for tourists, with a wide range of accommodation options. A good base for exploring The Tarkine Drive (and some short walks along the route). Stanley has specially designed, red-lit platforms for admiring the little penguins coming ashore in the evenings. There is a nice, wind-swept walk around the top of the Nut, which hosts a colony of pademelon.

We loved everything about the Mariner Rose.
The room was pure luxury and the bed was beautiful and very comfortable.
Breakfast was sensational and our wonderful host Amanda, went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.
We travelled on our motorbike and Amanda invited us to park it in her gated driveway, instead of parking on the street.
We highly recommend the Mariner Rose, as the place to stay in Stanley.
The Ark is an amazing property in a superb position, beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. Christer and Rhonda were perfect hosts and made us all a wonderful breakfast. Will definitely be staying there again next time we come to Tasmania.
we LOVED everything about this place. The location, the accommodation, the short drive into Stanley. It was the high point of a wonderful week in Tasmania.
