Dhaka is a massive, vibrant city that truly surprised me.
Dhaka is a massive, vibrant city that truly surprised me. Yes, it's densely populated—but it’s also full of energy, character, and contrasts. In some parts, you’ll feel like you’re walking through a South Asian version of New York, with towering modern buildings and impressive infrastructure that you might not expect.
There are plenty of things to do: scenic riverside walks, peaceful boat rides, and lively streets that offer a glimpse into the city's unique charm. You’ll find spots that make you fall in love with the rhythm of Dhaka.
Of course, like any large city, it has its less polished corners. But focus on exploring the nicer areas, and you’ll discover just how beautiful and fascinating Dhaka can be.

Dhaka is a very exhausting city and one gets stuck for hours in the traffic (3 hours by taxi from Sonargaon, and 2 1/2h from the port to the hotel area of Gulshan 2). Also walking through the Old City is quite a nightmare with all these crowds and bicycle rikshas.
Positive are the in general quite friendly people, there is a good choice of food to be had (like at the Food Court of the Unimart Shopping Center in Gulshan 2). From the attractions I liked the National Museum, where I spent quite some time. Worth visiting - and best done with a local tour operator like Nijhoom Tours - is the old capital of Sonargaon on the outskirts of Dhaka. The highlight here is the abandoned Hindu settlement of Panam Nagar and a boat trip to a traffic free river island.
Also the City Tour should be done with a local tour company like Nijhoom. Here I enjoyed seeing - from the outside - the National Assembly Hall by architect Louis Kahn, then in the Old City the Lalbagh Fort, the Ahsan Manzil palace, the Armenian Church and the Dhakeshwari Hindu Temple.

Getting around this city is very hard with bottleneck traffic dangerous driving, poor roads, rubbish and trash everywhere, I was at the railway station and people deliberately threw their rubbish on the floor and walked away. The constant barrage of horns honking morning afternoon and night gives little time to sleep. Parts of the city might be OK but my experience is very negative. Get out of the city if you want to enjoy Bangladesh

Dhaka is a big city with a very poor traffic system, lots of traffic jams and a high level of pollution. There are some nice places to visit, such as the National Museum and some restaurants; however, you should plan ahead and include traffic jam time in your schedule. Also, it is a city that is not very tourist-friendly. Staff in many restaurants do not speak English and there are many scammers. My recommendation for a faster ride is to take a rickshaw or a CNG, however, you should negotiate before getting on. A short ride (about 10 blocks) costs about 40 BDT and never pay more than 150-200 BDT for long rides. Also, if you pay with large bills, they will tell you they don't have change, so make sure you have the exact amount.

Visiting Dhaka is a full sensory experience!
Visiting Dhaka is a full sensory experience! The taste of the spicy street food, the sounds of the bells on the rickshaws and the sights of the palaces of Old Dhaka. Accommodation can be expensive but eating and travel are cheap and cheerful. The shopping is some of the best across South Asia with markets like the DCC and New Market selling anything from clothes to jewelery at bargain prices (be prepared to haggle) as well as outlets like Aarong and Jatra, where you can buy beautiful hand-crafted gifts and souvenirs. The locals are extremely friendly but English is limited so it is a good idea to have a guide to show you the ropes. Tourism is a very small industry in the country making it an extremely unique place to visit.

Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, is a vibrant and bustling metropolis that captures the essence of the country's rich culture and history. The city's lively markets, diverse cuisine, and historical landmarks like Lalbagh Fort and Ahsan Manzil offer an unforgettable experience. The warmth and hospitality of the people make every visit special. Dhaka's blend of traditional charm and modern development creates a unique atmosphere that is both captivating and welcoming. A visit to Dhaka is truly a journey into the heart of Bangladesh.

decent hotel for western tourist. halfway between airport and city center. quick uber motorbike it's no problem. Good safe food and found a bar near it. Mr lipton the owner is a wonderful person and his staff help you with any issue. hotel also will provide a letter of invitation which is needed to enter bangladesh.
I gave 9 of 10 because of how it is compared to other hotels in Dhaka!
The bathroom isn't amazing but you have to focus what u get for Bangladesh standards:
Nice staff
Clean bed
Imo perfect location
Breakfast included
Hot water
Working WiFi
Peace (at least in my room) and privacy
The hotel's location next to Dhaka Airport was great, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The breakfast was good too, and I couldn't think of anything to improve. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.
Great value for money. Good location close to one of the few metro stations and many restaurants and shops close by. Airport can easily be reached from here. Good breakfast and rooms are comparably quiet for Bangladesh.
