A wonderful family hotel on a peaceful spot next to the river, surrounded by silence and beautiful nature. The hosts are so warm hospitable people, that make you feel like home, cooking delicious homemade meals and tasty breakfasts that you will never forget. The room is very clean and cosy, it has everything you need. I highly recommend Hotel Mehana Vodenitsata if you are looking for an exceptional stay in the region of Melnik and Petrich.

The property is truly off the beaten track! Everything is newly built and the 'chalets' as they can best be called are very large and comfortable with a separate bedroom and living area. The bathroom shower was great. The kitchenette has everything you need, save an actual cooker, but has plates, cups and glasses and a kettle for tea. There is a restaurant where we had some really excellent food and breakfast in the morning was something to remember. The horses are beautiful and well kept in a large stable just down from the living quarters - if you are a riding fan, then this is THE place for you. The staff are super friendly and made our short stay a memorable one. Only one caveat: don't try to get to the property with a regular saloon car - if you have a 4x4 then no problem, but our VW's automatic gearbox overheated on the way up which wasn't an auspicious start to an otherwise amazing visit. The owners will pick you up from Sandaski, so if in doubt, take them up on the offer!

Melnik is an absolutely gorgeous town with amazing old architecture and Pyramid rocks towering over the town. Its really hot here during summer. A hotel with a pool highly recommended. The people are friendly. Service and food is great. Being a well reputed wine region the wine everywhere is very very good.
Everything is walkable in the main centre. So many restaurants to choose from. Make sure you make the hike to the monastery. The views from the top are spectacular.

Melnik is a very beautiful village, stay there but do not eat at the local taverns if you are not bulgarian. Very expensive, they charge double price compared to what they charge to the locals. You can have exceptional food quality and half prices at Petric and maybe at other nearby villages

Melnik is lovely with lots of wine to try. Good for hiking too. Walking to the monastery is a must!
It does NOT have a pharmacy. Finding basic things like paracetamol was a nightmare. A kind member of staff from a hotel gave me one of his arthritis meds.

Regarding the hotel - everything was perfect - the room, the breakfast, the staff. The hotel also has an excellent location - on a walking distance from all wine cellars & restaurants.
Melnik itself is the Bulgarian wine capital - so go there anytime you visit the country.
And do not miss the Museum of the wine.

Melnik is the smallest and also my favourite town in Bulgaria. Its wine culture, its architecture and the nature surrounding it, are unique. If I would take my foreign friends to any place in the country, Melnik would definitely be in the top 3. Fully recommend!

Hikers, nature lovers, photographers and wine lovers should not miss this town, which is known as the "smallest town" in Bulgaria with around 200 residents. It's one of the few places where nature has shaped big sand pyramids, some of which can reach a height of 100 meters. There are unlimited possibilities for hikes from the town, the most popular are to Rozhen Monastery and to a church in Zlatolist where a 1,300-year-old platanus tree is located. The town sees many tourists and plastic pollution is a big problem, like in most of Bulgaria. Soon there will be more discarded plastic bottles than pyramids here.

Gorgeous facilities decorated in the old Bulgarian style throughout. The restaurant downstairs serves delicious cuisine- traditional dishes with an updated twist. I might go there just for dinner should I visit Melnik again. Hosts were friendly and spoke good English. Room was immaculate with attention to every detail. The wine cellar was impressive and breathtaking, with the host explaining each part of the process. The view from the house overlooks the town, rock formations and old ruins.
We had a nice spacious room and the surroundings are beautiful. We loved the walks in the area, the walk to Rozhen monastery is really recommended. After walking it's good to rest in the hotel and eat the good tasty meals in the restaurant next to the woodfire. There is also a nice outdoor terrace. The people working in the hotel restaurant are friendly. We enjoyed our stay.
