Very safe, very friendly.
Very safe, very friendly. Interesting history with many well presented archaeological sites to visit. The old town is very well preserved and lovely to explore. I would say that Plovdiv is definitly worth a visit but be awre that very many places dont take cards, cash only, especially in the old town and most local taxis will also only take local cash currencey so come prepared! Also a pretty good bus service for which the flat fare is set a just 1 BGN no matter where you are going! Loads of nice resturants in central down town area, we found 'Happy' resuturant (its a chain) unexpectidly good! My top tip: If arriving at Plovdiv airport, is to try and find a local taxi with a meter and have about 25 -30 BNG ready pay in cash.. it will be 1/3 of the cost of taking an 'airport transfer cab' for the 20min drive into town!! Plovdiv is an amazing mixture of modern and ancient architecture and culture. Need to mention that it is the 11th oldest continuously inhabited city in the world (6000 years). Ancient remains and artifacts are carefully uncovered and impeccably presented among newer buildings. Must see places: Walk the Old Town, Hisar Kapia, The Roman Stadium at Djumyata Square, The ancient magnificent mosaics at the Small Basilica of Philippopolis, The Roman Amphitheater, Nebet Tepe, Sahat Tepe, Galleries and antic shops in Old Town, Kapana Quarter, Singing Fountains (operating Summer Time), Plovdiv Fair (Spring and Fall Editions), Aliosha at Bunardjika... This is a wonderful smaller city that must be added to your list of places to visit when in the Balkans. We drove from Sofia (very easy) and stayed in a superb Apartment in the old town area. Lots to see and do by just walking around so the car just stayed in the apartment garage. Plovdiv is a charming city, it has an incredibly cute old part with atmospheric streets, paved with cobblestones. Ascents and descents, very picturesque perspectives for photo and video shooting. This part ot city seems to keep its ancient secrets. You will find here atmospheric cafe and taverns with very friendly owners. These are nice people who are always ready to help you. There are also enough galleries, museums and historical points. You need to stay in Plovdiv for 3-4 days to feel the spirit of the city, get away from the tourist routes and get to know this place on your own and very closely.Guest review byNataBelarus

The area around the hotel looked very nice and it was only a short walk to the main square. As the hotel was in the old town the cobbled streets needed care when walking through them but this just added to the character. The bedroom was big and spacious. We were greeted, given recommendations for attractions, and also provided parking for the night (though this is not a guarantee from what we were told and based on availability). The rooms were immaculate and breakfast delicious. The location is within close proximity to Kapana and Old Town, both very worthwhile to explore, and to then easily walk back to the hotel.
