Plovdiv is a great city.
Plovdiv is a great city. I love history and there is so much here - we will need to come back to see it all! Going to a concert at the Ancient Theatre was magical, and both the ethnographic museum and the archaeological museum were superb, not to mention the Bishop’s Basilica. But Plovdiv is also a contemporary city with excellent restaurants and bars, with a special mention for the Offline Cafe board game cafe, which gave us a really warm welcome. This is an intensely historic and fascinating city.
This is an intensely historic and fascinating city. The Roman ruins are very well preserved and there is much to see and do. The people were friendly and hospitable, and there are a wide range of restaurants, cafes and bars to shelter in when the sun is hot and your feet start to ache. Plovdiv is beautiful and full of historic sites and very interesting architecture. It is a very walkable city with wonderful places to eat and unique parks. Very safe, very friendly. Interesting history with many well presented archaeological sites to visit. The old town is very well preserved and lovely to explore. I would say that Plovdiv is definitly worth a visit but be awre that very many places dont take cards, cash only, especially in the old town and most local taxis will also only take local cash currencey so come prepared! Also a pretty good bus service for which the flat fare is set a just 1 BGN no matter where you are going! Loads of nice resturants in central down town area, we found 'Happy' resuturant (its a chain) unexpectidly good! My top tip: If arriving at Plovdiv airport, is to try and find a local taxi with a meter and have about 25 -30 BNG ready pay in cash.. it will be 1/3 of the cost of taking an 'airport transfer cab' for the 20min drive into town!! The apartment had all basic amenties for a short stay. Also, the parking right in front of the hotel (booked in advance for 15 leva a day) was very convenient. In the same block there were tens of restaurants, bars, fast foods and shops of all kinds. And the lady in the reception was very kind, smiling all the time and ready to help on anything.
