I only liked the location. However, there was no proper road access for cars, and I had to carry my luggage all the way to the hotel entrance without anyone there to assist.

Balkan Jewel at the Foot of a Mountain

    It was way too hot in July-severe weather warnings due to extreme heat so no walking round. Museums closed on Sundays! We just went shopping in air-conditioned malls (ask helpful friendly staff for recommendations) and enjoyed hotel facilities. Several great restaurants in the hotel.

    Bulgaria is like a second home to me since my first visit. I always fly into Sofia to start and end my trip there. Great people, great venues, hotels in the center all make it easy to enjoy. I love going to Vitosha Boulevard for the view and to eat. I also love going to LARGO di Serdika Bar & Diner as it just has a very cool vibe. I usually stay in the center where I can walk to go spots nearby, but if I did need to take a taxi, I use the Yellow! app which is so easy to use to get around.

    Everything is within walking distance to each other. The free walking tour guide was excellent so I'd recommend taking that. The city is lovely in the centre but very run down as soon as you wander a street or two outside. The tram system is so easy to use as no tickets are necessary - tap on with a card and it is a fixed fare.

    The city has some cool markets, good restaurants. We stayed close to the attractions so everything we wanted to see was in walking distance. the only time we used the metro was to access the ariport. It was nice to have a relaxed pace to explore Sofia and get over our jet lag. If we didn't have to deal with time change one day less would have been fine as well or we could have taken advantage of a guided day tour.
