It was a nice, very clean and comfortable place. The kitchen was modern with all the utensils, dishes, cookware, microwave, new stove and refrigerator. The bedroom was large with a king bed and the full washroom just off of it and a small room with a washer and dryer. I was impressed with separate heat controls for the bedroom and livingroom.
There was a desk for a work station and sofa to relax and watch TV.
The main problem I had was with the TV. I was not able to watch much at all due to there was no sound. That was very frustrating. If I wanted to watch anything and hear it, I had to use my laptop.

If you stay downtown for a few days, you don’t even need a rental car. If you hike/walk/cab, you can get almost everywhere and have a very satisfying trip. If you stay longer than 3 days, you may want a car to see Cape Spear, Petty Harbour or anywhere else outside St. John’s. Tip: Book a car well before your trip. Lots of local flavour restaurants and micro breweries. Lots of history and scenery. Book a dinner theatre with Spirit of Newfoundland for a glimpse into the culture. Make sure you have tons of room on your phone for a million pics of rowhouses alone. You’ll love it here…and you may want to move here!

The history. The genuine friendly people. Walkable.
The history. The genuine friendly people. Walkable. Great restaurant and shopping options. Wish we had more time at Signal Point to hike along the trails from the Eco Park. We will be back with the Wooden60Catty cross Canada drive in August 2026 so that is on the list for next time!

The hotel is an old English fashion structure. Very clean.
The hotel is an old English fashion structure. Very clean. Rooms large and comfortable. Problems: our room was on the third floor with no lift and 4 staircase to climb. The last two being very steepy and narrow. It took us quite some time and effort to climb the stairs with heavy luggage (two large bags and two smaller ones). Older people or people with heart problems should be adviced about the difficulties. Breakfast was minimal with the same cup of fruits served every day. We finally decided to have breakfast in a near by cafeteria. Service very poor and unfriendly personnel.

We stayed at an Airbnb at 55 Cabott street that required a parking permit. I took the permit out of the car to ensure I wouldn't forget to leave it. We were doing a final look around to make sure we didn't forget anything and were ticketed for $60! We went to contest the ticket but we're told I would need a letter from the car rental owner to say I could contest the ticket and would have to go to court in 2026! I ended up paying the $60. Unfortunately it didn't leave a good impression for me as a tourist in your beautiful city.

St John's is a vibrant city.
St John's is a vibrant city. People are very kind and helpful. I ate at St John's Fish Exchange, Sprouts, Gingerroot and Duke of Duckworth. The Alt Hotel where I got picked up for my day trip has a great breakfast.
I walked from McKay Manor to the Rooms Museum which was amazing and great to have lunch at. I did go on a great 4 hour day excursion to see the local area with St John's Tour w Celebrity Guide which included lunch.

The ALT Hotel in St. John's Newfoundland, is located on the harbour in the heart of Jelly Bean Row. It's a photographer's paradise. My small dog, Sparky, and I roamed the streets snapping photographs of the wonderfully coloured houses and stores. The hotel is also close to the famous George Street the location of nightly live musical performances and Water Street with its vast selection of good restaurants. Loved the neighbourhood! Lynda L. Lock (author of the Isla Mujeres Mysteries and also the Death in the Vineyards Mysteries).
What a great place to stay! The people were friendly. The hotel room was clean and comfortable. The hotel was walking distance to downtown St. John's. There's a tour desk, but it wasn't manned when we were there, but easy enough to book online with a JAG hotel pick up. There's a computer/printer at the back of the first floor (I didn't know until I had to leave), but they gladly helped me print something at the reception. I would stay here again, if ever at St. John's.
The location was great, being that it was right downtown in the heart of the city. The bed was very comfortable and the room overall had a very comfortable atmosphere. I enjoyed this more than a usual hotel stay because the building was unique and wasn't you're usual chain hotel.
Centrally-located with comfortable rooms - spacious and quiet, with original decor. The staff were very helpful, especially after booking-com had somehow mixed-up our reservation. Everyone was courteous and friendly - an excellent introduction to Newfoundland hospitality.
Very close to St. John's Convention Centre, and all downtown amenities. Nice being close to all amenties in your own place vs big hotel. Quiet, kuerig in room. Great harbour view from room.
