The waterfront was lovely as were the flowers and garden areas. A wonderful restaurant on the water was our best meal. The market on the weekend was the most civilized, organized and pleasant of any other European market. The produce was amazing. When we stayed (Jan 2025) we received the Neuchâtel Tourist Card from our accommodation which gave free access to museums and public transport. A great positive surprise. We realised there is so much to see and visit in and around Neuchâtel. Will definitely have to come back. Neuchatel is an enchanting Swiss romande town with very quaint and old buildings, full of specialty cafes and restaurant. Everything is walking distance. It is not touched by mass tourism, not yet. It was an Amarcord thing for me, to re-visit the place where I used to live as a student in my twenties. Lots of changes, I liked the old Swiss style. The lakeside walk is beautiful, with Alps on the far side. The architecture of the old Town is beautiful. There are grocery stores, pharmacies, gift shops, dress shops, cheese shops, chocolate shops, cafés and restaurants within very easy walking distance everywhere between the lake and the famous Collegiale where Reformer William Farrell once preached. The central Marché is an especially picturesque spot for a coffee or a meal at one of its many cafés. There is a funicular to Chaumont and its charming Petite Hotel which serves excellent food. Next to it is a zip line fun park for kids and playground for littles. The Neuchâtel museum is worth a visit. 2 lakeside restaurants with outside eating are great: Beau Rivage and Waves. The view from the room was breathtakingly beautiful. One can see the mountains, the lake, and the houses below. It was picture-perfect. The staff was very helpful and pleasant.
