FAQs about hotels in Guangzhou

The City That Has It All

Historically known as Canton and China’s third largest city, Guangzhou is the birthplace of the most popular types of Chinese cuisine such as iconic wonton soup and dim-sum. It has an impressive skyline, some of the oldest temples in the country and busy markets with everything from tea to hi-tech electronics.

The busy city center mesmerises with its futuristic architecture and beautifully lit skyscrapers but just a short trip away is the quiet haven of Nansha Wetland, a bird sanctuary. After a visit here that rejuvenates with new energy, you can then admire the traditional Cantonese architecture of Xiguan Residence, once occupied by the ruling class.

One of the city’s most popular attractions, the Liurong Temple is an absolute must-see, dating back to the 6th century and featuring a 17-story high pagoda. Make sure you don’t miss the traditional buildings near Yide Road as they are slowly being removed from the map due to the city’s rapid growth.

From a 1000-year-old lake garden, to plenty of theme parks, relaxing rolling hills and mountains, Guangzhou seems to have it all! Add impressive street markets and shopping centers and you are in for a fascinating ride.

Guangzhou Airport is a convenient metro or taxi ride away and Booking.com provides over 390 different accommodations options for you to choose from.

Guangzhou is a bustling city and easy for a foreigner to explore. The metro is English friendly and extremely cheap. For shopping go to Beijing Road or walker's street close to Sharmian Island where the White Swan Hotel is. Consider a walk around the island and go back in history to visualize the European settlements and embassies that once controlled the area, it's also had signs in all areas saying, No Dogs, No Chinese. It's worth a look at the old churches and architecture. To escape the heat, take a morning trip to Baiyun mountain, lovely walks, views of the city. For many years I have been a fan of the Zoo, Once nothing but cages and small confined areas now much friendly. Also, pandas on view. If you are into history, there are a few gold mines their and for a lazy night, take a river cruise up the pearl and look at the night lights.

    Guangzhou was an excellent experience.

Guangzhou was an excellent experience. Remarkably, my son took the metro by himself, the police located him within 15 minutes, several stations away. The variety of food was impressive, although finding addresses in English posed a challenge. However, by the end of the trip I was managing better and will be more prepared next time. With a metro conveniently connected to the airport, it is easy to stay anywhere, as transportation is not a significant concern. Additionally, most metro station staff were helpful to first-time visitors.

Lots of historical places to see, places to eat and shop as well as lots of temples and gardens to visit, Dafo temple, the Orchid garden and Yuexiu Park were well worth a visit. City was clean and tidy, does take time to get use to bikes and mopeds everywhere but Guangzhou is a lovely place and very safe to walk round, well worth visiting.

Guangzhou completely surprised me with its energy, warmth, and diversity. One of my favorite spots was the Canton Tower — especially at night when the skyline lights up. I also loved walking along the Pearl River, which felt peaceful yet alive with local culture. For food, I tried a few local gems and street stalls, but the highlight was definitely tasting authentic dim sum at a traditional Cantonese teahouse — an experience every visitor should have! Getting around was surprisingly smooth. The metro system is clean, efficient, and easy to navigate, even for a solo traveler. Taxis and ride apps were also very convenient. As a solo traveler, I found plenty to do — from visiting Baiyun Mountain for a quiet escape, to exploring Shamian Island with its colonial architecture and calm vibe. Guangzhou is great for solo exploration — safe, well-connected, and filled with hidden spots to discover at your own pace.

First time here , very nice place.

First time here , very nice place. Large city , very busy , but no problems getting around . Lots of shops and choice of product , many old and new areas , get to see not only modern China but old China in some areas. Very clean for such a large city and many beautiful green space. The weather was warm and humid but no pollution for amount of cars on road. Amazing to watch people of all shapes and sizes getting on with their lives. Watch out for all the little electric scooters delivering food and product to large drop boxes everywhere. People very friendly , communication by them via translation apps made life very easy . Travel around city to many sites made easy by DIDI , very good price . Did enjoy our stay
