We stayed two nights at Uriel's newly constructed pool villa "Casa Cafur" in the nearby town in Santa Ana, and spent the days at his Playa Tranquila beach house (quiet part of playa Blanca)
Strong winds damaged most of the beach earlier that week so we were unable to spend the night as planned but Uriel saved our vacation with his pool villa, then we got to spend the days anyway at Playa Blanca so it was the best of both worlds. The beach is a quick 6000 peso ride from the villa.
Let me tell you, when you enter Casa Cafur you realize you are entering somewhere special. You get that "wow" feeling once you enter the doors. It's a peaceful paradise, and feels totally private. He keeps the pool clean, and the cocktails are delicious! His staff are totally cool and they take care of everything like the richest resort.
I proposed to my girlfriend at his beach house (posada donde Uriel) and when we returned to Casa Cafur, Uriel cooked us lobster and shrimp, champagne and we had the whole place to ourselves. Music, hammocks, cocktails and a clean pool.
The village of Santa Ana is cool too, we drank and danced with the locals and sharwd way too many dollar beers.
I trust Uriel and will always come back! Thank you Uriel for a special 3 days.

Wow this location is AMAZING. Truly it was a private beach all to ourselves… only one other couple there on our first night. The property only has 4 rooms total so you’re never going to have a bunch of people there. The staff were SO accommodating and patient with our lack of ability to speak Spanish. We only speak English, staff only spoke English but they always used translation making it very easy to communicate! I saw other reviews complaining about the food being overpriced and no hot water for the shower which seems silly to me after now experiencing how remote this place is! It was my toddlers first travel experience, and I was SO happy with the comfort Carey House offered. Is it a luxury hotel, no. But does it have everything you need on a remote beach location with PERFECT Carribean swimming and the best staff ever? Yes. We will be coming back!

I love how close the place is to nature, beach is amazing , the rustic cabanas are beautiful .The only thing I didn’t like it were the locals trying to sell their products in a way that can be annoying.

The only way to get from the arrival area to your hotel is to walk along the beach with your luggage or by boat. When the seas are ruff and there are no boats you must carry your luggage through the sand and water. Depending where your hotel is, that could be a mile. There is one tiny bodega on the beach to buy soda and beer and not much else. It’s best for a short stay.

Horrible place, instead of the sea breeze you'll enjoy exhaust from the dozens of motorboats and scooters cruising everywhere without any rules. They make a horrible noise all over the day, combined with loud music from each bar it caused a headache. Food and drinks are extremely expensive, we got poisoned by some food there being sick for 3 days.
Trash is everywhere behind the beach line.

Before 11 am and after 5 pm, it is beautiful.
Before 11 am and after 5 pm, it is beautiful. Between those hours, however, there are an overwhelming number of visitors and vendors. The water is full of so many people offering rides on jetskis, banana boats, tour boats, etc, that rather than smell the ocean air you smell gas. If you want peace and quiet you need to trek about 2 kms to the peaceful section of Playa Blanca.

Baru was a big surprise for us in all the right ways.
Baru was a big surprise for us in all the right ways.
Family of 3 with a 10 year old, stayed 6 days, 2 different hotels.
Beautiful white sandy beaches, turquoise colored waters and fresh sea food ( learn your prices and always check before accepting anything).
The family time spent there is unforgettable. The people are kind and respectful. The island is safe and after 4pm starts to calm down and at 7-8 pm it's quiet and peaceful.
Most people spent a day and leave, but i recommend you stay and do the activities. We did snorkeling and raccon as well as the Plancton (DO NOT MISS IT! ).

Nena beach resort AC, pool and beach beds.
Staff was very, very kind. There were moments that we would have hoped for them to come around more often to see to our needs. Seafood was over cooked 2 nights in a row. Which I think they should have to ta T because it is a beachfront property. Cholon is just on the other island in front and the noice that the boats produce was a bit distracting , but it is not the properties fault in any way. but other than that must say that it was a very good stay.
Our stay at Baru Playa Resort is like living on Fantasy Island - beautiful, remote, tranquil, & peaceful. The staff is exceptional, professional and friendly. Captain Edgar is a great boat captain and very friendly. Jorge, the owner, is passionate about quality service and maintaining the rustic island vibe of his beachfront resort. I am so impressed with Jorge and the resort, that I would consider investing in it!
WE.LOVED.EVERYTHING. The staff was wonderful; so friendly, informative, they seemed proud of where they were working. The location was a fairytale-the beach, the walking paths, our room, the nature, and the breakfast. Despite the remote area the wifi was fabulous. We were pleasantly surprised to have the added bonus of being able to take a boat (provided by the hotel) to visit the hotel's private island and beach.
This hotel is by far one of the best on the seafront in Barú. We walked the whole beach, saw all the accommodation and tried different bars and restaurants. We always kept going back to Playa Surf for the great drinks, food and service.
The rooms are super comfortable and clean and the staff are helpful and friendly which adds the cherry to the top of an already good cake.
Jeiner - who manages hotel helpful and friendly
Great location - beautiful view from the balcony, nicely covered in shade
Due to low amount of rooms, more private, not a mass hotel.
You need to set expectations right, this is a basic ‘hotel’, don’t expect fancy stuff.
Breakfast was good.
All in all, quite satisfied.
Rafael and Sol we’re just wonderful. Tjhe proximity to the beach and ocean were great. The staff was so helpful. They helped us arrange transportation from the airport, including a van and taxi boat, as well as boat transportation the next day to enjoy the islands and go to our next hotel destination. So nice!
Olga was a fantastic host and the food was amazing. If you are traveling to Cartagena and want a quiet few days, this is a perfect place to stay. It’s such a unique experience, there’s a private beach, you have family style meals with other guests and Olga coordinated our transport for us which took off stress.
This is a gloriously tranquil retreat on the other side of Baru from the touristy beaches. You can easily arrange a snorkelling trip or a beach visit, but at the same time, enjoy some days of peace and quiet, connecting with the place and the ecologies of the mangroves (manglares).
I have to give this review because people need to know some things before booking this place or any other place on Isla Baru because information is lacking on Booking.
For the good sides, I would say the view from sea view rooms and the fact that you are directly on the beach.
Great location on the beach. The bungalow is really nice with the ocean view from the balcony. You can easily get tours to the other islands or just stay in playa Blanca. You never have to leave the hotel if you don’t want to. The staff are very nice and helpful.
The hotel seems recent, everything in the rooms looked new and very clean. Occitane amenities 😊
Separate areas for guests and people on day tours made the whole stay much more enjoyable.
SUP and kayaking at no added cost
beautiful small hotel at the beach. José is so kind and takes care of everything. lovely and relaxing place to stay. rooms are beautiful and very clean
