This is a big tourist draw (both in-country/adjacent countries) and from numerous other countries. The architecture of the old city and it's place in history are incredible. If there is a cruise ship in port things get pretty crowded and noisy, especially at night. We spent two nights in the walled city and two more in adjacent Bocagrande. We could have skipped the last two nights and not missed much. Visit Gethsemani...very worth wandering around this neighborhood with a different vibe than the walled city.

Cartagena de Indias — A Perfect Ending

Cartagena de Indias — A Perfect Ending Coming to Cartagena de Indias after the Lost City trek was a complete contrast — from raw nature and exhaustion straight into a city bursting with color, rhythm, and life. And that contrast made the experience even stronger. The Old Town has an absolutely unique character. Walking its streets, you can easily imagine a Caribbean city that has barely changed over time — the buildings, the balconies, the colors all feel wonderfully preserved, almost suspended in history. It’s a fantastic place to wander without a plan, enjoy great food, soak in the atmosphere, and let the city unfold slowly. Cartagena works beautifully both as a starting point for a Colombian journey or as a finale. For us, it was the ending — and honestly, it couldn’t have been better.

I loved the beautifully coloured buildings of the walled city and Hotel Boutique Casa del Coliseo was in the heart of it. Kona was our favorite local restaurant. The Street Food Walking Tour and Rum Tasting in Cartagena were the highlight of our 5 days in Cartagena de Indias. We do not recommend Tour De Palenque, Road to Emancipation. While the history is important, the tour was expensive, the guide was rude and every half an hour you were expected to tip and guilted if you didnt. There is much to see and do in Cartagena.

The heat and humidity are stifling, so we took trips to the mall to bask in a/c. The beaches were very nice, but there are too many people approaching you to sell you something almost continuously. The area for tourists and tours cater to travelers and the prices are higher there and the food there is not very authentic.

Nice city with an interesting historical centre and the coloured popular area of Getzemani; the Spanish city walls which protect the centre have a nice walk path "ronda. Nice restaurants and roof top terraces. the Castillo is a masterpiece to not miss and the subset from its top an amazing experience.

I had a great experience staying at the art hotel. The location is perfect like 1 minute walk from the heart of the old city getsemani and a bunch of nice restaurants and places to go out. I also liked the art experience of the hotel which has a gallery as part of the hotel. The roof top view is nice for a drink late in the afternoon. Also they were very helpful assisting me on questions of where to go as well as in organizing my trip to the islands.

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Jaguar. It is a charming little boutique hotel in the middle of Getsemani, very close to attractions and restaurants. The breakfast we had in the attached cafe was made to order, fresh and delicious. We even met a group of tourists who came daily from Bocagrande just to breakfast at Cafe Antonio. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I'd stay here again in a heart beat.
