It is 3 star hotel and they meet the expectations so nothing to say here but I'll put my recommendations anyway.
I would suggest this hotel to people visiting the university. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, quiet and right in the middle of the university and easy to arrive from ostrava svinov train station.
Breakfast was not great but again, since it is 3 star hotel it is acceptable.

It is a students home as well as a hotel. Quite modern clean everywhere, it seems have to be refurbished not long ago.
The rooms are clean, comfort and quiet, you also have a small kitchen corner, microwave, coffee machine. Very fine. Wifi and TV are good functioning.
Check in and checkout without problems and friendly service, you can store your luggage if necessary.
You get a remote chip, which opens the front door and your room.
All in all can be recommended.

Ostrava is having a bit of an image reshape from it's old industrial look, now the riverside is much nicer, and I saw many improvements in progress.
For a mining city, the air quality (on a weekend) was good. There are a few nice restaurants at the main square.
When I arrived, a local recommended I find a friendly bar called, "The Dock", nice open place close to the river. good food... I know ... food again....
If you come to Ostrava, you must see the zoo!

The bus and train stations are miles away from each other.
The bus and train stations are miles away from each other. I found it hard to navigate the underground areas around the stations on Google Maps. There was very little to see in Ostrava that I felt was worthwhile. Probably didn't help that it rained most of the day I was there and the castle is closed on Mondays. Thank goodness for La Brasserie whose lovely staff and premises provided me with a lovely place to wait out the weather before leaving Ostrava. I do not recommend a visit unless you love industrial stuff. I do not haha!

Ostrava was a huge industrial centre, but the industry premisses are now closed or heavily downsized. There are several old industrial sites converted to the kind-of the museums, interesting to visit! City centre is also interesting!

Ostrava is a large relatively recently de-industrialised city. There are plenty of opportunities to explore the industrial heritage. It appears to be a series of individual areas that have amalgamated into a large town. The public transport system of busses, trolley-busses and trams is very good. There are good restaurants, but the nightlife is limited in the centre to a couple of small areas, one of which closes early. The people were very friendly and helpful.

The city is fun, but...
The city is fun, but...I just spent to much time on the public transportation app. Here is what I learn that would have been most helpful for American travelers.
If all of your party has their own Visa Credit card with tap to pay feature, you are already going to have an easier time!!! It doesn't take any American Express. You have to tap to pay go on the DPO, Ostrava's public transportation. The bus police doesn't always check, but as a visitor this was persistent fear.
If you have a child, who will ride you all the time, or you have a person who doesn't have a Visa with a tap to pay feature. You must only get your bus card at the Ostrava main train station!!!! I went DPO kiosk near an Albert supermarket, as stated on the DPO website! It was not dispensing cards. The city decided to get rid of cards recently, except at the Ostrava Main Train Station!
Don't you bother to bring cash on the public transit. It doesn't take it.
Don't try to get the 3 day pay by the DPO App. The app is broken. I even uploaded an image of my kids' picture and passport, and the app still did not take any money, and did get me a pass. It take 2-3 days for them to approve the photo and passport and but the app was not letting me purchase the 3 day pass. I only know that they still had cards because I sent an email to DPO after my stay and they advised me to go to the Ostrava main train station next time. Every regular Ostrava person, I talked to said the cards are not available, but I guess they have them only in one place.

The property was conveniently located in the middle of the shopping district, was warm and clean, had a real charm and the staff were extremely helpful.
The brekkie was in the hotels restaurant and the staff were super friendly and accommodating.
The hotel had a little kitchen but we didn’t use it’s there were heaps of great quality restaurants within a 3-5 minute walk and under the hotel.
Thank you for your hospitality.
Great Mercure stay, airport express bus stops outside hotel. Central location. Good breakfast selection including prosecco every morning. Comfy room, hot shower. Kettle and handy fridge in room. Nice sauna and gym. Friendly staff. Restaurant was closed.
Really liked the staff! Price was also really good! I stayed for two nights in august. Short and easy travel from the train station. Also really liked Ostrava! Interesting history; Landek park and Dolni vitkovice! The public transport was really good!
