Founded by the Romans in 38 BC and idyllically located on the Rhine River, Cologne offers the perfect blend of historical and modern Germany. There’s no place more picturesque to drink a Kolsch beer and eat a schnitzel than on the banks of the River Rhine. Here you’ll find the Altstad, or Old Town, with the impressive Cologne Dom on the skyline.
Visitors to Cologne in November can dance the days away at the Carnival Parade. In December, no trip to Cologne’s magical Christmas markets is complete without a steaming mug of Gluhwein.
The charm extends to other seasons as well, thanks to the medieval wonders of the Cologne Cathedral and the Twelve Romanesque churches. Learn about the city’s history at the Roman-Germanic Museum or take a postmodern approach at Museum Ludwig. Whether historic or culinary, a trip to the Chocolate Museum can complete any tour.
Booking.com offers 260 different accommodations, ranging from apartments to mid-budget hotels to guest houses. So whether you’re stepping out of a plane at the Cologne Bonn Airport or a shop on Hohe Strasse, you will be sure to have a cozy room for those cool European nights.

A city rich in culture and tradition, peaceful and hospitable/ at least those are the impressions from this short stay. Also, there are a lot of places with excellent food. Of course, Kolsch beer is must to try and to drink in enough quantity. Cologne, although peaceful, is rich in events and lively even in the late hours. Public transport is very well organized, but could be cheaper (I have the impression that it is one of the most expensive in Europe).

The only thing I didn't enjoy was the hotel.
The only thing I didn't enjoy was the hotel. Otherwise the city was amazing. I couldn't stop discovering new cool buildings. Each time I went up to one a new one would pop up on the horizon. I ended up walking almost 20km and had to stop because my legs hurt. It is a beautiful city with lots of buildings and parks.

Cologne has a lot of history and culture to offer to the city enthusiast. Plenty of city walks. The cathedral is great and is located right next to Cologne train station. The people are great and there are plenty of choices in terms of hotels. The Lindt Chocolate museum is a must do for any chocolate lovers. All in all a fab city.

Great Kolsch scene in the brewery bars.
Good food in terms of both taste and value in the same establishments.
Excellent kebabs all around the old town
Less happy with the amount of emails generated by Booking.com and the hotel for a simple 2 night stay. Absurd amount.

Hotel is on Cologne Main Station concourse so ideal for someone arriving into Cologne very late at night or leaving early. Due to train problems in Germany I arrived very late so spent very little time there, but check-in was 24/7 and easy enough, and my room was clean.
Maritim hotel is very well situated, within easy reach of Cologne city centre, the railway station, restaurants and the river Rhine. Very comfortable, well equipped room/bathroom and excellent breakfast catering for all tastes.
The best thing about this hotel is that it’s close to the train station and walking distance to all the places we wanted to visit while in cologne. The rooms are spacious and clean.
So far this has been the best hotel experience I had in Germany.
Staff at check in/out was very friendly and helpful.
Accommodation was really great and cozy.
