An Economic Centre on the River Rhine
If you’re visiting Dusseldorf in February you’ll witness the bright parade of Carnival, if you visit in July you can take part in the Largest Fair on the Rhine. No matter what time of year you visit you will find a city bustling with festivals, art, music and museums.
Much of the action occurs in the Old Town, otherwise known as the Longest Bar in the World due to the amount of cafes and bars serving a dark beer called “altbier”. The centre was faithfully reconstructed according to the city’s foundation walls after the Second World War and offers a historical insight to the city.
Museums range in exhibitions from history at the Stadtmuseum, to fine art at Museum Kunst Palast and even to a museum dedicated to mustard. If shopping prevails over culture then head to the Königsallee, a picturesque strip of high-fashion shops set alongside a tree-lined canal.

The art museums in Dusseldorf are really spectacular & well worth visiting. It probably makes sense to get the |Dusseldorf Card (for various lengths of stay: 1-day, 2-day, 3-day, etc.) which allows entry to a lot of sites free of charge, while others are at reduced price. It's an easy city to navigate & walk about in. There are plenty of green areas, streets are generally shaded by trees but there is also an underground system (well, underground trams, really) but the network is good, easy to use & the Dusseldorf card allows you to travel on this too with no additional cost. Don't forget to visit the TV Tower with a nice cafe at the top & some spectacular views of the city & surrounding area. The airport is very easy to reach by train; there are direct trains on a very regular basis. Dusseldorf is also well located to visited other cities nearby, incl. Essen, Wuppertal (for the famous hanging tram system - Shwebebahn) & Duisburg - all of which have some amazing art galleries & museums.Guest review byNigelUnited Kingdom - Review score

Decent city if you get away from the area near to the central station which was well populated by vagrants and drug users. Otherwise really nice in city centre , the riverside and the old town . We visited Dusseldorf with two young kids aged 1 and 3. There were lots of family friendly things to do within easy distance, so long as you are happy to navigate your way around and get public transport. For families we would recommend the Aquazoo, Nordpark, Wilpark Grassenberg, Botanic Gardens, and the Neolithic Museum & Park.
