FAQs about hotels in Munich

Beyond Oktoberfest

Renowned for its stunning architecture and the world’s largest fair, Oktoberfest, Munich needs little introduction. Its vibrant cultural scene, great shopping and fantastic museums speak for themselves.

Munich has something for everyone: from historic palaces and castles, to stunning royal avenues to world class galleries and museums. Don't miss the new city hall, or Glockenspiel, in the heart of Marienplatz or the former residence of the Bavarian kings, the Residenz. Munich is also home to the world’s most famous beer hall, the Hofbräuhaus.

For great shopping, Karlsplatz is a pedestrian zone which takes up much of the city centre and the upscale area around Maximilianstrasse is yet another commercial wonderland. Munich is famous for its food too, so make sure you try the local Weißwurst, Leberkässemmeln and other popular pork dishes.

Thanks to efficient S-Bahn train, getting to the city center from Germany’s second busiest airport, Munich International Airport is quick and easy. Whether you’re looking for luxury hotels, youth hostels or comfortable apartments, Booking.com has the perfect accommodation for your Munich visit.

Munich is wonderful - clean, safe and very friendly.

Munich is wonderful - clean, safe and very friendly. Loads to see and do. Great public transport - we used the U bahn, S bahn and the buses - all very easy and convenient. We loved Oktoberfest, but the beer gardens in the Viktualienmarkt and the English garden were great too.

I visited during Oktoberfest, and the city was very lively. The fest itself was, of course, alot of fun. But I recommend seeing other parts of the city as well, such as the English Garden, the Viktualienmarkt and the Deutsches Museum. I also recommend taking the train to surrounding areas, such as Ammersee and Tegernsee.

Munich @ Oktoberfest (the only experience we've had) is chaos and fun rolled into one. Crowds, yes, but manageable. Beer tents in the fest are still cash only, though some of the satellite tents will take a card. Restaurants outside the festival are starting to go to card only. This is a change from our last visit. Cash is still king, so have some on hand, both coin (bathrooms), and bills. Walkable city, but the public transportation will help you get all over to see what you want to see. Be prepared for more smokers than we experience here in the U.S., so if you have respiratory issues, keep that inhaler handy. Marianplatz is beautiful. The glockenspiel is a don't miss, and take the opportunity to eat outside at one of the restaurants there.

Pleasantly suprised! What a beautiful city!

Pleasantly suprised! What a beautiful city! We visited for Oktoberfest and reserved a day to enjoy other parts of Munich. We truly enjoyed walking the Altstadt, old botanical gardens, the residenz is spectacular with the gardens! We loved the surfers and the stroll we had in the English garden- so much beautiful green space for the city! We walked a lot but loved every minute! Seems like every turn of a corner wowed us! Well done Munich!

Honestly I was underwhelmed by Oktoberfest.

Honestly I was underwhelmed by Oktoberfest. Locals kept questioning why I would fly all the way to Munich for this and now that I’ve been, I can understand why. It’s essentially a state fair with big beer tents filled with college kids (obviously I mostly knew this) but in reality it was just a bit much. Even being an enthusiastic beer drinker it wasn’t worth the experience for me, nor was the price of the rooms. Stay further away and take the rail! The best part was visiting Dachau as an army veteran.

Went for the Ocktoberfest, which is a must do at least once, however, prices for accommodation and in the tents is getting way over the top. Away from the main festival food and drink are obviously more reasonable, transport all over the city was excellent. Will be nice to see the main train station eventually finished as it's a bit of an eyesore at present and has been for many years.

It was convenient to be close to the central station & city centre. While this is a 4 star hotel the staff are definitely 5 star. I have a disability & all staff went out of their way to be helpful but especially the night porter and a husband & wife team in the kitchen/dining area. Overall the staff hospitality helped make my visit to Munich bery enjoyable

This hotel is a short walk from Munich’s east station, easy to get to from the airport and doesn’t take long to catch a train or underground to the city centre. We had an event at Tonhalle, and it was very convenient to walk to and from the venue. We appreciated the choice of pillows. They were comfy.

The hotel was very close to the city centre and Christmas markets. The staff were friendly. The building is older but adds to the charm and authenticity of staying in Munich. There is a lift to assist with getting luggage to the rooms on higher floors.
