Beautiful mountain view and only a few minutes walk to downtown Oberstdorf. Very good breakfast with very friendly service. We enjoyed the afternoon „Jause“ with a hot soup and pancakes. The fitness room was great, too.

Quiet, peaceful, relaxing. Clean, tidy and authentic, I haven't noticed any loud music or loud partying, or the mainstream fashion/fastfood chains that are omnipresent in most other destinations.
Everything is in walking distance. If one is staying in Oberstdorf proper, one doesn't even need to use public transport.
There are a number of stylish restaurants to choose from, focusing on local products and German cuisine.
The views from the Nebelhorn Bahn are amazing, it's definitely worth the money.
Being able to enjoy breakfast on several sunny mornings while watching cows grazing on pastures around my hotel, was an unforgettable experience for me as a person who cherishes this sort of tranquility.
For souvenir buying, while the touristy stores aren't bad, I recommend going to the farmers market near the main square if you see it during your trip. I was able to buy very nice local products there.
Arriving well informed is definitely recommended as the early closing hours of shops (and stores closed on Sundays) may surprise some visitors.

Oberstdorf is a lovely town in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps. Getting there is relatively easy (although there are repairs to the train line at the moment with buses from Sonthofen to Oberstdorf).
The town is known for being very traditional, with the cows coming through the streets in the mornings and evenings from spring until late summer.
There is a cable car up the Nebelhorn, with beautiful views, as well as other cable cars a short distance away.
In the town itself, everything is within walking distance, and visitors can use the WalzerCard on the town buses.
A trip out to the Breitachklam is well worth the bus trip at any time of year.
Don't expect a busy night life. Everything shuts down fairly early in the evenings.

Love the landscape and the amount of things to do.
Love the landscape and the amount of things to do. I was never bored. In fact, I could hardly relax because I always wanted to be in town, or hiking up a mountain. I didn't get a chance to rent a mountain bike this time, but have in the past.
There are many excellent restaurants including one with a brewery. Food has been great where ever we went.
The boys went paragliding this year. I also just love making my coffee early in the morning and just sitting on the balcony by myself, reading a book with the mountains in the distance. Ahhhhhh...
Hotel Traube's Biergarten has been one of our favorites every time we come. I also like the Dampfbierbrauerei.
Drive to Söllereck and ride the Alpine Slide.
Hike to the Heini Klopfer ski jump and take the elevator up. There you can do a VR ski jump from where the actual jumpers take off. Then hike around the Freibergsee (lake) at the bottom and get more food at the Freibergsee Restaurant. There is also a beach to go swimming in that lake.
I have been in the Oberstdorf/Kleinwalstertal area 5 times now and plan to return next year!

A very beautiful town in Allgäu, worth a visit if you plan a vacation to Allgäu. A good place for skiing, hiking, cycling or winter vacation. The old town is very pretty with a lot of old buildings. There are many shops, restaurants, bars or cafes' inside the town centre. Oberstdorf also surrounded by many snow covered mountains, the view is just amazing!

Such a safe and clean place, good food options although limited in off season. We found summertime to be the best time to go.
Such beautiful views, walks and sights to see. The cable car gives great views, try to get the right discount card which makes it free.

Nice and lively village.
Nice and lively village.
Center is at the right size for tourism, and ski. (shops, cafés etc)
However, the number of restaurant is not matching the number of tourist (ski season): it is nearly impossible to find a table for dinner in the evening. All is booked.
