A 7000 Year Old Mediterranean Jewel

Honestly we we only stayed one night as as stopover to another town. I was there less than 24 hours. I had no knowledge of Alicante before I got there. I was delighted by the old town and the castle, beaches and promenade. Great fun energy. However, it was very touristy. Lots of bachelor/ette parties and such. But that also means cute shops and lots of restaurants. Not a place to go for relaxation but it was beautiful and a fun surprise. This is a very Spanish city. Not much English is spoken, which is OK, because why should they. We managed, through Google translate, to order the right foods in restaurants though. It has a fabulous beach and marina, and lots of little streets full of bars and restaurants. We were only there 4 days so didn't really look at any of the shops but saw lots of people with various shopping bags, so it would seem there is a wide choice. It's a very hilly city - be prepared.
