The Spanish Soul of Art and Entertainment

The modern Madrid is one of the greenest cities in Europe and the most popular destination in Spain. Whether you want to experience its legendary nightlife or a flamenco show, this is the place to be.

The renowned Prado Museum holds one of the world’s finest art collections with iconic paintings by El Greco, Velázquez and Goya. For a more modern touch, the Museo Reina Sofia houses works by Picasso and Dali.

I was actually there for my daughter´s graduation at the end of June. It was the first day of their first heatwave with temperatures of 44ºC forecast! I have to say, I have been to Madrid before, in August and I vowed never to go back in summer. I would NEVER go to Madrid during the months of June, July or August. It is unbelievably hot which makes just walking around almost impossible. Try and go April or May, or September or October when you can enjoy all of the outdoor activities such as the Retiro park, Puerto del Sol, Plaza de España, go for walks along the river etc.

Plenty to see.

Plenty to see. The tapas were gorgeous and we ate at different restaurants to explore the variety. Getting around was very easy - there were plenty of taxis available. For groups, try one of the rooftop bars; well worth a visit.

We spent one week in Madrid in August, which would normally not be our choice of time of the year but we went to experience the solar eclipse in Valladolid, about 100 miles away. Madrid seems to get better every time we visit. Plenty of pedestrian zones make it so much easier to move around and the center of the city is generally very safe — but be careful of pickpockets and opportunistic theft in busy areas. Take the time to wander around the neighborhoods, stop at a neighborhood bar for a drink and a tapa, and explore wonders such as the Royal Palace (well worth a visit), the Retiro park, and the 2,000 year old Egyptian Templo de Debod, gifted to Spain in the 1960s. Madrid has so much to offer to the discerning traveler.

Madrid is a beautiful clean city and a great feeling a safety due to the high presence of police in the centre at all times. Loads of eating houses with outdoor seating and found the Metro clean, safe and easy to use. Ideal that you can get a metro from the airport to the city centre and the centre of Madrid is easy to navigate on foot, all the main attractions are close to each other. The Royal Palace and the cathedral are worth visiting as is the large park with lake and Crystal palace (albeit the actual crystal place is closed for renovation until 2027)

lovely place felt safe travelling solo. Airport pickup didn’t go well, pre booked taxi didn't turn up. Hotel was very helpful and supportive how to connect to taxi to get me to the hotel. I was interested in the documentary made by Chef James Martin and I wanted to try the food at the restaurants he had recommended in his TV program

Madrid unexpectedly felt more like "me" than Barcelona.

Madrid unexpectedly felt more like "me" than Barcelona. I found emo and alt-culture influences on the streets here, and there was interesting alternative shopping. For example, at Temple de Susu, where they finally had things that weren't just black, but truly subculture-inspired. The main event was MCR. The concert, and especially the company of Spanish emos afterward, gave me a sense of a live stage I hadn't experienced in a long time. Some metro stations have cool retro trains with modern precision and air conditioning. In the city center, people were dousing themselves with water pistols; I was completely wet, but my phone was dry. Southern fun with European safety. The city is big and hot, I want to go back.

A great location, close to the historical sights and city centre bars and restaurants The owner, Josè, was helpful, friendly and tried his best to make our stay comfortable. The hotel room was basic and in need of refurbishment but was adequate for our needs. The hotel style was like returning back to my childhood of the 70’s and the lift reminded me of old ‘cold war’ films of the 60’s where was a sense of excitement and suspense when you slid the metal gate to close the lift door to start the slow climb up to the chosen floor.

All the staff we met were courteous, helpful and friendly. Breakfast display was exceptional, plentiful and fresh. We did have a meal in our room 1 evening and again it was well presented and freshly cooked. The hotel is situated in Madrid city centre close to bus routes and Metro. Our room was overlooking the main street but noise wasn't a problem. Plenty of storage space and the bathroom looked newly refurbished. The bed was very comfortable. Highly recommended.
