For some reason I was under impression that there's always warm on Tenerife, but it's not the case and specifically on the North part. The water temperature is also quite low, especially in March-April.

Lovely town, with some great architecture particularly civic buildings and churches. Some lovely open squares with lots of restaurants, but also some really nice gardens with fountains and giant fig and palm trees. Good public transport with trams and buses, but whole town is very walkable - although getting a bit steep at the back.
Interesting shopping, all the big famous stores, but also a lot of little local shops selling food, hardware, clothes, hats, toys, tourist tat.
Although lots of tourists come, the town has a definite feeling of being an authentic Spanish town with the population going about its normal business
Lots of good restaurants and bars, some catering more for tourists but also lots of local places full of local people eating and drinking.
Although a big port, the harbour is all you get to see of the sea, you need transport to get to any kind of beach. Likewise there are no harbourside bars and restaurants, just lots of cruise ship and ferry terminals, all very industrial looking.
Quite a long transfer from the Tenerife Sud airport - approx one hour. Very unpleasant scenery, all volcanic lava flows, hardly any greenery to be seen, some glimpses of the sea.

We visiting in January, my Mum has always loved the city but had never stayed there, only visiting for a day trip before. As it turned the weather was only so-so the week we were there and it rained a little bit on a few days - BUT, this is a proper working city, not a tourist resort and as a result it had some great places to visit when the weather wasn't great - fantastic art galleries, museums, theatres and parks, the whole cultural vibe of the place was great and a lovely change from some of the more obviously touristic places in Tenerife and the Canary Islands. The only downside of Santa Cruz being a non tourist orientated city is that VERY few people speak any English, and sadly my Spanish is hopeless, so Google Translate became a huge asset for the week! Also the city is built on a steep hill, there are LOTS of hills and lots of walking to do as the old city (where we stayed) isn't really served by public transport - although the centre and port part are well served by buses and trams etc - so we walked A LOT - and my elderly mother played a blinder in that department! It's also perhaps the least wheelchair accessible city I've seen in a long time, the pavements are very narrow, too narrow for a wheelchair or buggy for sure, and anyone with mobility issues would struggle here. The food offerings were strong, great value and lots of authentic Spanich dining to be had here!

Stayed here for three nights in February while on my way to Puerto De La Cruz just to see what the place is like. I stayed Monday-Wednesday so I don't know about the nightlife as I didn't bother going out. During the day there are a lot of places to walk around the centre, but it very much feels like any other city. I wouldn't choose it over somewhere else in Tenerife. It's an upgrade compared to Ireland!

This was our third stay at the Hotel Colon Rambla. We were upgraded to a fantastic suite. The customer service was excellent as usual. This is a great location to access all of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The rooms, hotel bar, restaurant and breakfast are all high quality.
Everything is superb. The rooms, restaurants, swimming pool, gym, spa, hotel interior are all fantastic. The staff are very accommodating. Location is just 10 mins walk to the centre of Santa Cruz. Buffet breakfast is amazing, so many different options to choose from.
The hotel is located in the centre of Santa Cruz, very close to attractions, coffee shops and restaurants. Polite staff and very clean room. The bus station is less then 15 minutes walk if you want to explore the island by bus.
As a sole traveler I like to find a room like this rather than a hotel. It was an excellent location in central Santa Cruz. My room had a balcony overlooking the main street. The property has recently been developed.
The hotel is located right in the centre of Santa Cruz. Its easy to find and access. The price is very great, especially if you're not going to stay in the hotel
