We went to Besancon to visit a friend and had only time for a short walk around the city. We visited Victor Hugo's birthplace which was very informative, and we were delighted to see some Roman ruins preserved in the center of the city. Besancon is a nice small French town.
Besancon is a nice small French town. It has a couple things to do in the city, but I feel like the better ones are the Citadelle and parts outside of the city. But you need a vehicle to better reach outside. I stayed 2 nights during January, it was cold and a bit windy, so going to a higher place was out of the question. Th Time Museum and Victor Hugo's birthplace are pretty cool to visit and not expensive. Lastly, I felt that people in Besancon were very friendly.AAnonymousBrazil - 8.0Scored 8.0
The nature is nice.
The nature is nice. You can make different walks in and around the town. The busconnection is perfect en cheap. So you can leave the car at the hotel. You don't have to look for a parking near the town. There are more museums than we aspected. Only the museum of resistance was closed.

In summer not all restaurants are open for business. So it is wise to make reservations because it is busy. There is not a lot of trees, flowers, parks so the city looks a bit "stoney" / not romantic. The citadel is nice to visit though with children.

Wished we could have stayed longer to visit Besancon!
Wished we could have stayed longer to visit Besancon! We only stopped overnight on our way back to Germany but saw the Citadelle lit up at night and had a 20min wander in the morning before heading out. The city looked really interesting to visit and wander around for at least a full day or two. Might look into going back through in the future to see more of it.

The views were wonderful and it so so fun just sitting by the window watching everything outside! The location is safe. The building is historic! It's clean, spacious and bright. Lots of restautants nearby! There are two separate bedrooms. One bedroom has the view of the Square and the other bedroom has the view of the river! The livingroom is comfortable. There's a large kitchen and a big diningroom table. We loved the apartment. A+++++

We arrived three hours before the earliest check in time but our room was ready and they kindly let us in. Location was perfect. Both tram lines and many bus lines stop 100 m away from the hotel. Hotel interior is modern and clean and their beds are very confy. They didn't have coffee machine nor instant coffees in the room which are usually available in other hotels but that is a tiny issue. The flat itself is very spacious. 3 double bedrooms. But the piece of resistance was the main living/kitchen. The flat is the private home of someone residing overseas, so it is stuffed with books, all languages, music all genre and the Kitchen had exquisite spices. We felt at home.

It is on top of a hill and requires some walking, but we like that. The parking is in the garden. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The breakfast on the terrace overlooking the big garden and town is wonderful. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
