Blois beautifully lines the Loire Valley with a sublime combination of nature and architecture. Standing between Orléans and Tours, two other Loire Valley gems, Blois - the most important city of Loir-et-Cher -enjoys its proximity to the agricultural Beauce area and Sologne forest.
Slate tiles and tuffeau stones, a pattern reminiscent of the Loire Valley, are prominent in Blois and the old town is full of charming houses. Blois train station is near the Gothic Renaissance Castle of Blois, considered one of architecture’s masterpieces. Originally occupied by King Louis XII, it is nowadays partly taken over by the Museum of Art, offering a collection of paintings, sculptures and ancient tapestries. The royal gardens also evoke the Renaissance and provide a lovely view of the city. Other gardens invite you to enjoy the magical scenery by the Loire river.
Walk 2 minutes more towards the commercial street to discover the House of Magic, a unique example in Europe of its genre. Take some time and walk along the Loire, where the historic Jacques Gabriel Bridge, built in the 18th century, links the two banks of the city. Follow this route to discover the magnificent Castle of Cheverny and the not-to-be-missed Castle of Chambord.
For your convenience, Booking.com offers a large range of accommodation including city centre hotels with parking and cheap apartments.

Perfect medieval city with a lot to visit and beautiful classic monuments alongside the city center. The view of "La Loire" above the main church is insane. I definitely recommend Fleur de Loire hotel to enjoy your trip. A few michelin restaurants also available.

A pleasant, town with character.
A pleasant, town with character. A good base to see some chateaux - its own Chateau Royal isn't spectacular like some, but internally and architecturally is very interesting. There's a good shuttle bus service to Chambord, and Clos Luce (Da Vinci lived there so he's the centre-piece of everything exhibited) can be done by means of a short train trip to Amboise.
Blois has some interesting ancient, winding, climbing streets in the historic quarter which are worth exploring, while the town centre is easy to cope with. Cathedral also worth a look. Good for a two to three day visit.

The layered history was fascinating and the cycle touring was exceptional. There was so much left unexplored that we would love to do. Plenty of food choices, walking is our chosen mode of transport do good walking shoes were essential.

The old quarter is charming and all walkable if you are comfortable with hills, stairs and cobblestones. The Chateau is most impressive, with many well-appointed rooms in two of the Renaissance wings. There is a parking garage adjacent, underground with 1 hour free parking, one euro for additional hours, very convenient and needed, as all parking along the narrow town streets is pay and fairly short term. We enjoyed wandering the streets at dinner time, and visiting the cathedral early morning prior to our visit to the chateau where we spent 3 hours.

The township of Blois is gorgeous, the accommodation was clean and roomy, quiet and a short walk to all amenities. The area as a whole is gorgeous. The car park is confusing and a little distant. It also makes you feel welcome if a few extras are provided however this accommodation was sparse. Some places offer a little extra such as oil, salt and pepper, enough toilet paper for your stay which makes the difference. On the whole a lovely place to stay.

Functional hotel for overnight stay; room was comfortable enough, motel-style breakfast was OK. Staff were helpful, and allowed us to check in slightly early. Like many similar hotels, the location is a semi-industrial/office area on the outskirts of town; but it was relatively quiet and not far to drive into the centre of Blois for the evening.
We spent one night on our route through France. It was a good stay, although the hotel has no special thrills - it was a bit worn out. Still, everything seemed well-maintained and working fine. The owners are very friendly. The breakfast was fine and even was more varied than a typical "petit dejeuner" in hotels of this class.
The hotel is perfectly positioned for the Chateau de Blois. The bedroom was decorated in keeping with the history of Blois and the four poster bed was delightful. Breakfast was very good and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
