Excellent location in the city centre, private parking, fast and friendly reception, pretty room with roof beams and unusual layout.

Bedroom and bathroom were very nice, we paid for a larger room. Easy to park outside, on a meter, but the receptionist told us it was free for us.

+ Frederic was an excellent, attentive and convivial host
+ Food was simple but good
+ Breakfast was good
+ Parking in the village square was good and convenient
- No good quality wine by the glass
- Shutters on the bedroom windows were solid, so there was no way of allowing air in at night whilst maintaining privacy
- Huge sliding door to bathroom: difficult to close from the inside and too noisy for discreet use during the night
- Bathroom was large and well appointed apart from a need for grab rails for entering/exiting the bath shower. Toilet seat was plastic and broken.
- Bed was exceedingly low

Chaumont is a small provincial capital (22,000 people), with limited tourist appeal. The most important sight is the 600 metre railway viaduct, just beyond the station; it's worfth a detour. One can visit the main buildings in the city in a couple of hours on foot. The Centre National de Graphisme, which is recommended, was open only from 2 pm when we were there. We dined in the restaurant of the Hotel des Remparts, which was unexpectedly excellent; curiously, it's closed on Sundays and Mondays, but otherwise reservations might be needed.
This quiet city is fine for a one-night stay.

Exit from motorway shut has been for sometime had to exit next junction 22 kilometres away and then 40 kilometres back to Chaumont. French highway control should be bring people off junction earlier. Sat nav didn’t pick up closed junction.

We had a few hours to visit the centre and/or buildings.
We had a few hours to visit the centre and/or buildings. City centre is poor and poverly. We found almost no restaurants - and only then open after 19.00 hrs.....on reservation.
For resting place it is ok - (distance south/north) but there are more interesting places. The restaurant we found (Le Tandem) was extraordinay good....
We could walk from our hotel tot the city centra in 10 minutes.

I was very surprised of the Hotel's quality, facilities, and whole interior!! I felt like in the Palace. It deserves more starts than it shows! Overall it is located in a quiet area and there are nice restaurants in the neighborhood. One of the best stays over last years!
