Chose this hotel for its proximity to the railway station and Lille Town centre. The room on the 6th floor was small and minimalist but suited our needs for 2 nights. Recently refurbished and clean. No air-con, but a fan was provided. No kettle, but there is a coffee machine in the breakfast room on the first floor, which we made use of. The breakfast was good enough and plentiful...bread rolls, pastries, cheese, jam, cereal, yoghurt, fruit. Also, coffee machine with various options and different teas. Bottles of water also freely available just inside the main entrance door. The QR code entry is a great idea... Once you get the hang of it. Hold your phone back far enough for all 9 codes to scan at once. The antique lift is a novelty and very small! The staff we encountered were friendly and happy to help.

A French and Flemish Chocolate Box

A few miles from the Belgian border, Lille displays Flemish influence in both architecture and cuisine. Its most famous square - Grand Place - is home to the beautiful Vielle Borse building, the Lille Christmas markets and several restaurants serving moules-frites and local beer.

Behind that is the Palais Rihour, a rather odd-looking building surrounded by cafes. In the opposite direction is another square with the opera house at the centre and triangular-shaped buildings fanning off in 3 directions. One of these cobbled streets leads to the Old Town, where boutiques and international brands are in beautifully crafted shops.

Shopping in Lille is actually epic. It has Europe’s largest bookstore (the 8-floor Furet du Nord) and largest flea market - the Braderie de Lille. Then there is the bustling Wazemmes market and the huge Euralille shopping centre. The town also has some fantastic chocolate shops.

Other attractions include the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Citadelle – a 17th-century fortress surrounded by a free zoo and gardens.

Lesquin Airport is on the city’s outskirts, but most visitors arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, named after Lille’s most famous son. If travelling to Lille by Eurostar, check out the mural of famous European landmarks before heading to your Booking.com hotel, B&B or apartment.

    I think that if I were young enough to take another tilt at...

    I think that if I were young enough to take another tilt at Europe from Australia, I would not come to France again. Lille was just OK, and we used Lille as a step-off place to two gems: First La Piscine - Musee d'Art et d'Industrie in Roubaix. This was a revelation with a wonderful collection. Second, a visit to the Australian War Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux. A wonderful, sombre excursion stuffed up only by two cancelled pre-booked taxi rides (Allocabs) that badly threw out much of the train coordination to make it a day excursion. The planned early afternoon return to Lille ended up at 6.30 and half a day wasted. But the experience at the War Memorial far exceeded the trials of getting there and back. As for Lille itself: great Metro, train station staff were great. Stained glass windows in St Maurice Church were wonderful, Other standard tourist features were as expected, but nothing exceptional. Too hard to find an early evening meal. Apart from the above, I would not recommend Lille as a destination.

    Beautiful architecture, super public transport.

    Beautiful architecture, super public transport. Lots of lively and interesting squares and gardens/open spaces. Automatic ticketing machines are tricky for non-French especially to recharge a ticket.

    Loved Lille!

    Loved Lille! Arrived Friday at noon and departed Sunday at noon. Had I not had reservations in another town to continue my trip I would have tried to extend my stay through Sunday at least. Lille is a lovely small city that was a treat to walk around, shop, visit the art museum, and enjoy the amazing French bakeries. It was easy to walk around and my hotel was an easy walk to the train station. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe. I highly recommend a visit!

    Beautiful French town with lots of historic buildings, nice walks and great restaurant. The main square was lively and had a great vibe. We stumbled upon a lovely second hand market off from the main square. Parking was readily available close to the old town, although rather pricey, we paid 12.80 euros for just under four hours. Everyone was really kind and did their best to speak English. A lady in the supermarket readily helped us out and staff were kind in shops and at our accommodation.

    Lille is a charming city with a mix of old and new towns. There is a zoo, several museums and an excellent art gallery with some famous old masters. The food is superb, with lots of restaurants catering to all budgets and tastes. Seldom have we eaten so well. ...and as for the beer - so many excellent brews to choose from. We stayed 7 days and saw just about everything. But we went to the tourist information at the end of the 5th day and they confirmed that we had visited everything they could think of - so 5 days is probably enough to see everything. We visited the zoo twice - it is excellent and cheap, and different animals came out to play the second time.

    Lille is a lovely place for a city break.

    Lille is a lovely place for a city break. Picturesque city, friendly, helpful locals, great range of shops and eateries. Interesting old part of the city for browsing and mooching round, modern shopping centre in the newer part open till late at night. flavour of Belgium as well as France as it's close to the border. Well worth a trip.

    In the city centre- within walking distance of all main attractions, old town etc. Clean room, good size window in room onto street view, very quiet hotel. Staff were so welcoming and helpful, especially Aline who took the time to kindly recommended some great places to visit in Lille. Staff were always very warm with greeting me whenever I entered the hotel. I had an issue with my key card getting into the room and staff dealt with this as if it was no bother and quickly were able to set me up with another room. A generally lovely experience!

    Closely located to Euro Lille as well as to the city centre. Helpful reception staff. Lucas and others helped with several queries that we had. We stayed in triple room that had one double and one sign bed so the room was quite spacious, caring to some Ibis hotels.

    Great location, just a few minutes walk to the old town, and metro access is 100 meters away. Odd things to say, but the underground parking lot is the nicest I have seen in France. Co-located with a mall, so if the weather is bad, you can go there.
