Lyon is a gastronomic center with a pretty architectural facade ranging from antiquity to modern day. Place Bellecour is centrally located between the Saône and Rhône Rivers in the 2nd arrondissement and opens out into major shopping streets.
On the banks of the Saône lies the district of Vieux Lyon, a great example of the Renaissance and full of museums such as the Lyon History Museum. Winding your way through the beautiful streets you can make your way up to the spectacular white-stone Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière and look down over the city.
There is a lot going on in the main park of Lyon, Parc de la Tête d'Or, which is home to a zoo of exotic animals as well as various sports facilities and a large lake for boating. Boats of a different description are docked on the banks of the Rhône River; they host parties late into the night.
For a taste of tradition, Lyon’s famous bistros, or Bouchons Lyonnais, provide a cozy atmosphere for some of the best in French gastronomy. Plan your perfect holiday in one of Booking.com’s 130+ hotels, apartments or guest houses.
Definitely an under appreciated city. Centrally located and accessible by train or car to dozens of local areas (Geneva, Avignon, Annecy, etc.) with just a short ride. Plus the city is big and bustling with tons to do. The food culture is amazing, we are at Mere Brazier, local bouchons, and not and the good was great.

Lyon is the gastronomic capital of France, go for it!
Lyon is the gastronomic capital of France, go for it!
With the Lyon card you have free boat tour on the Saone River,
Free tour of the old town and free bus, tram and metro plus discounts in museums, etc
“Bouchons” food is not for everyone but the ambiance is unforgettable. You have to talk to the next tables people as you will be squeezed together, we loved it.
Armada restaurant, rue du Boeuf in the old town is recommended if you get tired of the “Bouchons”. Excellent food and friendly service.
Don’t miss the Bocuse Food Halles, mind boggling array of delectable food, you can have lunch too.
Musee des Ilusions and Silk museums are great too.

Lyon was an interesting place to visit especially the cathedral on the hill. Lyon is not the food experience that it is meant to be. The traditional pork belly at a BOUCHON was average. Most other meals are no different to Paris or Melbourne.

Lyon is a very interesting city , a lot to see and do. We visited Beaux Arts gallery which was fantastic and definitely worth visit also there are so many restaurants and bars, one is spoiled for choice. Public transport is very efficient and frequent. Tapping on with a credit card is acceptable, otherwise tickets can be purchased.

The city is vibrant and full of life.
The city is vibrant and full of life. There are plenty of museums, an amazing botanical garden/zoo, lovely parks, and tremendous food. Café du Jura - Bouchon Lyonnais had friendly staff, good eats, and great vibes. Highly suggested to make reservations for EVERYTHING especially on the weekend in the trendier spots. We missed out on a good lunch without realizing it.

Loved this City more than I thought I would.
Loved this City more than I thought I would. It really surprised me. Lyon had this amazing vibe to it, the night life and the restaurants were energetic. The Architecture was brilliant and I loved the history behind the traboules around the city.
We managed to explore most of the city on foot, but getting around on the metro was very easy. We did hike / crawl up to the Basilica of Notre Dame of Fourvière, which was well worth all the huffing, puffing and burning calves. The building is amazing and the view you get of Lyon from the top is just beautiful.
Also, I think I had the best cookie of my life here, make sure to visit La Fabrique Cookies during cookie happy hour.
Wish I had stayed here longer than the two nights we did. I would love to go back.

The price was unbelivable good considering the amazing location, as the hotel is located right next to a big roman theater and only a one minute walk away from Notre-Dame de Fourvière cathedral. From there you have a really nice view of the city. From there you can also take a cable car down to the base of the old town and the metro station Vieux Lyon, which gets you into the inner city very quickly. The staff was friendly and helpful.
The location was perfect! Right in the Old Town, with charming buildings and many incredible restaurants (France, right?!). The hotel was quiet, and contrary to many reviews, I had zero issue with the hotel's concept of "no-reception". Instructions were quite easy! The room was HUGE (I stayed in the Alba) and bed was comfortable. Coffee and madeleine's were restocked every day :-)
Beautiful hotel in the old Fourviere area of Lyon. The hotel is picturesque inside and outside and have nice rooms with modern bathrooms. The reception area is a rare sight and quite special. Helpful and friendly staff.
- Curtain for the privacy.
- Decent amount of ensuite toilet/shower rooms.
- Kitchen with cooking amenities. I appreciate this as it's not available in many hostel in France now.
Convenient to stop by if you’re passing Lyon on your way to south of France. Unusual but pleasant atmosphere. Restaurant attached to the hotel is very good and lively.
