Our google took us to Maintenon to break the journey from the south. It was slightly out of our way but well worth the detour. Very pretty town, lovely buildings and castle but very quiet in the evening.

Small but interesting town with fascinating architecture and a beautiful Château. Restaurant choice was limited as most were closed on Monday night. The town has a lot of traffic going through it, so it’s hard to find somewhere to sit outside and have a quiet drink or bite to eat.

The chateau is exquisite: and a manageable size on a very hot day! Beautiful gardens too. We ate at Sables de Roses, a Moroccan restaurant, which was simply fantastic (recommend chicken ravine with lemon and olives).

Despite ongoing renovation our room was quiet. The workers respectful to guests. Water & tea making facilities adjacent to room & separate toilet from bathroom. Exceptionally clean. We would like to return again to try out the spa facilities after completion of the renovations.

Staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was just a few minutes walk away from a lovely castle and the centre of the village.
