We walked on the second day of our three day trip from the hotel , along the Champs Elysee to the Arc De triomphe , then back to the river and zigzagged across the river with the bridges , past various museums , palaces , Place de la concorde, visitor attractions and all the way to Notre Dame . Stopped for lunch and a much needed drinks at one other lovely Bistros by Notre Dame ( highly recommended -and so cheap for central Paris ) , then on up to the Centre Pompidou Finishing with a metro ride back to near the hotel and a little stop over at Galeries Lafayette. 7.3miles walked . Day three , Metro to the Trocadero which is the best photo spot for the Eiffel Tower. Then over the river to the River cruise which was great . Back on the Metro to the hotel , a nap( much needed after the epic walk ) and a lovely steak dinner at one of the nearby restaurants . The rain was torrential so we stayed close to the hotel . Paris is a beautiful city that I can find myself living in. It has an enormous amount to offer because of its rich history, culture, arts, people, and food! One can never get tired of learning about the history of the Notre Dame, the Louvre, Versailles, Grand Palais, Petit Palais, D'Orsay, Sacre Coeur, and so on. Shopping on the Champs Elysees is an experience in luxury and decadence, while the food and wine scene is like no other. People-watching while sitting at cafes was a thing to do in the old days and still today. Paris is user friendly and a wonderful city to explore by walking. The subway system is good and simple. There are so many neighborhoods to explore each with its own vibe. I recommend venturing out away from the touristy sites and explore some of the restaurants and stores in the various neighborhoods. You need to see the D-Orsay and some other famous areas, but get there early. Definitely go to Versailles and take the garden tour with Alisatair which includes the palace later in the day. It is a very expensive city which is not worth paying for it. I travelled to more than 40 countries and Paris is too expensive for what is worth to visit. Be prepared to walk but more importantly be savvy with Google Maps or Waze to find your way around town. Our hotel map was so small in detail, it was useless. Maybe another shortcoming of my hotel. This was a return visit for my wife and I after 20 or so years. Our main objective was to sit at the cafes and just enjoy the atmosphere of Paris. We accomplished our objective several times over.
