We loved the historic, quiet beauty of Villefranche-sur-Mer.
We loved the historic, quiet beauty of Villefranche-sur-Mer. We know it would be much busier in Summer so being there at the start of Spring was perfect although some restaurants were not open - April would probably be the ideal time. It is such a pretty town with a lovely harbour and so different to the glitzy high-rise of other parts of the French Riviera. The people were friendly and it was easy to travel beyond the town by train or bus to places like Nice, Monaco and Cap Ferrat. The tourism information centre people were very helpful, as were the friendly staff at Les Palmiers - great food too. We visited the Citadel and also the gorgeous Saint-Pierre chapel which was decorated outside and inside by Jean Cocteau.

Villefranche-sur-mer is one of the most beautiful villages in the South of France, beautiful harbours, beaches and stunning views. Surrounded by nearby beautiful towns, you can walk to Beaulieu Sur Mer & St Jean Cap Ferrat and being located in between Nice & Monaco, you are just a quick easy train ride either way or a stunning walk to either. The location is amazing. Highly recommend a fabulous Hotel in Villenfranche-sur-mer called “HOTEL DE LA DARSE” which I have stayed at twice now and it is excellent value for money, has a lovely restaurant & terrace, super breakfast, stunning views from the balcony rooms.

It is just such a beautiful place.
It is just such a beautiful place. Maybe not so suited for elderly or disabled people because there are a lot of stairs down to the vibrant area of the port and beach where most of the restaurants and bars are located. We had wonderful meals and drinks in great bars and loved sitting close to the water to eat our meal !! There is a little shuttle bus that can take you down from the top to the bottom but it only goes once an hour!

Very hilly withy difficult driving. Suggest renting an automatic car.
Eze was worth a short visit. We ate in a bistro just down the ro0ad from the hotel. Getting around is NOT easy. It would be better being lower down the mountain to make walking more possible

It's a beautiful area and there are several cafes and restaurants to choose from.
Lots of interesting walks and also lovely beaches where the sea is calm which is great for children.
Recommend Plage La Mariniere for young families.
Unfortunately, Hotel Villa Patricia is not recommended- until there is a change of management. Terribly unprofessional manager at the moment (September 2023).

The place you want to live in if you love the city but also love to be away from tourists. Of course you're going to see tourists all over the French Rivera but Ville Franche-Sur-Mer has this vibe and energy I cannot describe, but it's just something else. It's magical and lovely.

Great value for money, large room, fantastic shower and friendly staff.
Previous reviews mentioned the train noise but I’m a light sleeper and they didn’t disturb me, it’s more of a whooshing sound than a loud rattle!
The location was fantastic. At first we thought the hotel was a bit of a trek into Villefranche but actually it’s ideally located to wander into Beaulieu sur mer and walk around St Jean Cap Ferrat. It’s right on the bus route heading east & west and there’s a garage next door selling essentials.
This hotel is charming and rustic. The room had a lovely views and looked much nicer than the pictures. Breakfast is available at the hotel at a small charge and was delicious! The staff were very accommodating and gave great information about what to see/do and how to get around. The location of the hotel is ideal - walking distance to ville franche sur mer, beaulieu sur me and saint jean cap ferrat! It also walking distance to train station and bus stops to travel further afield!
This hotel is just wonderful! I'm so grateful we were able to stay here during our first trip to the French Riviera. The location is PERFECT for getting around for day trips. The rooms are very current and comfortable, and the pool and hot tub are A+ with great views toward the sea. The breakfast is prepared by the owners and very tasty! Great variety. Be sure to include breakfast with your stay and you won't be disappointed.
The garden was lovely and I was able to leave my luggage under the hotel in a utility room while I went to breakfast and waited to check into my next destination. I was asked to check out by 10:30am which I did. But while waiting in the heat of the day in the garden, I noticed that another room did not have to vacate until 12-13pm. I wished I'd been able to stay in the A/C rather than melting in the outside heat.
Perfectly located in the old town of Villefranche, yet still within a 7 minute walk from the train station, so it made day trips to other parts of the French Riviera very convenient. The apartment was spacious with lovely furnishings, very comfy bed and well-equipped kitchen (we didn’t get to use it since there were so many great restaurants to try nearby). Would 100% recommend, and would happily stay here again.
We stayed in the family apartment which fit 4 people perfectly. The room was great for us and cleaned daily which was great. The view from the room was spectacular. The breakfast we had was also delicious. The owners were very responsive and helped book us a taxi and brought an extra fan into our room because the 2nd floor didn’t get enough air. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to friends and family!
Just returned from this lovely family run hotel overlooking Villefranche. Great views. Spotlessly clean. Very good breakfast and a lovely bar area with balcony. Nice pool to relax and cool down! Well maintained grounds. Buses run past the hotel frequently to visit places like Nice, Monaco and Eze. Taxis and Ubers also easily available to get to and from the village. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Our vacation was 6 days in Villefranche-sur-Mer. The location of the hotel is wonderful. Provencal
is a unique mix of French art de vivre and local charm.
We booked a superior double room, it was comfortable and spacious, the sea view was beautiful. But the most important advantage of Provencal is the staff🌹 - friendly people who were always polite and took care of the guests.
This hotel is well known for its location, right on the water front, with stunning views across Ville Franche Bay.
Glorious sunshine in the morning, but , note, the sea view balconies lose the sun early afternoon. Lots of restaurants to choose from within walking distance and local train station takes you East to Monaco or West to Nice and Antibes.
The breakfast was very good. The scrambled eggs were cooked to order and perfectly. The location is ideal - bus stops to Nice or towards Monaco right outside the hotel - and a pleasant 10 minute walk to the old town (bars and restaurants). The view from the hotel rooms over the bay is magical. This is an outstanding family run hotel.
Its a boutique type of hotel. The views are just beautiful. The hotel is super clean and very comfortable. The restaurant upstairs for dinner was amazing but the breakfast with the freshly made croissants made this experience over the top!!! Great place to stay ..will definitely come back and recommend to friends and family.
It had a washing machine, nice kettle and toaster. Bed was comfortable. right at bus stop which was good. we took the bus to Monaco and to Nice. parking lot (paid) not too far away. Fabrizio, the agent, was very friendly and spoke English. he gave us some good suggestions of places to see and eat.
Lovely situation by the stunning historic Darse harbour, breakfast on the terrace watching the boats. Had a great quiet room overlooking the pretty garden. The hotel still has some period features, with a wonderful marble staircase and nouveau tiles in restaurant.
Good location. Walking distance from town and beach. Very friendly and helpful owners. The hotel has everything you need. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the small restaurant on site is great. We can surely recommend Hotel La Regence.
Probably one of the best locations in Villefranche with great space and amazing views. A light and airy feel, with the type of sophisticated and tasteful decor that promotes relaxation and a need to be back again soon!
Probably one of the best showers I've EVER had in a hotel. Just awesome. Comfortable beds and friendly staff. Good location to get into Villefranche Sur Mer. Would 100% stay again if coming to this area in future.
Fantastic Location, Right in the centre of the lovely old town of Villefranche. Flat is modern and very clean. Had everything we needed. Very central but still very quiet.
