Aberdeen FAQ: Tips for every trip

Charm, Granite, Energy and Blooms

With a gently rolling landscape, Aberdeen moves elegantly between sandy beaches, picturesque stone houses, and blooming gardens. As Scotland’s 3rd-largest city, it is home to important universities, a busy harbour, and is a hub for the oil industry in the North Sea.

Walk along the Union Street ‘Granite Mile’, and visit some of the historic places like the Town House, Castlegate, or ‘Provost Skene’s House’. Don’t miss the Art Gallery and the Maritime Museum, and do some shopping in the city’s trendy shops. Choosing hotels in Aberdeen’s city centre allows you to explore this compact city on foot.

The charming Old Town is filled with bookstores, old buildings like the King’s College, and student cafés. The city won the ‘Britain in Bloom’ prize a stunning 10 times for its well-kept gardens.

The local airport offers direct train links with the central railway and coach station. Staying in a B&B, a cottage, or a hotel near Aberdeen Airport is a way to avoid the last-minute rush, while enjoying the surrounding green hills.

Whether you want Aberdeen hotels with a pool, or rural accommodation surrounded by hills, don’t miss the deals on Booking.com!

I was in Aberdeen for business, so did not explore. Staying at the Aberdeen Douglas Hotel was fantastic, with a lively Irish bar next door & Bistro attached, both of which were spot on. If I find myself there again, I will definitely revisit. Highly recommend :-)

mostly lovely areas, and lots to see. on our visit the main street is being dug up so a bit of chaos. However I could see there is a lot of investment going on, which is a good thing. The highlight was eating in lovely restaurants The Albyn and Silver Darling both were exceptional.

The staff lovely. Room fine, pillows like bricks. Parking instructions as clear as mud. Ended up paying £30 for parking this really grated on me. Need fans in room as when window open very noisy. Do not think I would use hotel again, not as I thought it should be for price

Aberdeen is going through some redevelopment in the city centre. Like all bog cities that makes for a negative shopping experience. There are, however, still attractions and places where good hospitality can be found!

Being a port city, you can arrive by ferry - I travelled from the Orkney Islands on an overnight ferry. Aberdeen is a good base to visit the Dee valley area and quite a number of castles, including Balmoral. Don’t miss Crathes castle for its beautiful walled gardens.

From the moment you enter the car park and met the attendant to the receptionist, bar staff cleaners the staff were courteous and professional and greeted you with a smile. The room was well proportioned and spotless. The meals were plentiful and tasty and well prepared. They have great chefs For a venue so close to P&J arena the price was great. There really was nothing negative I can say. I highly recommend this hotel if you are coming to Aberdeen to go to the city, airport or arenas

This is the best cheap accommodation in Aberdeen by a very long way. Spacious and clean rooms. En suite facilities, where other places at this price have shared bathrooms. The rooms are well prepared by the professional staff. Everything functions. Windows are openable. Very handy central location. The whole place has a bit more character than sterile corporate hotels. Reliable.

Absolutely fantastic experience at the Marcliffe. A new favourite for NE Scotland, and we will definitely return in future. Staff in particular made this experience special. The food quality in restaurant was excellent and well received by our party. Being lucky enough to stay in some very premium hotels, this really sets down a marker for other 4/5 star venues in Scotland.
