staff were so friendly and professional. we booked the hotel while driving in the car, so it was a bit of risk although the pictures looked nice. honestly, it was fantastic. had a glass walled bathroom, massive shower with complimentary shower gel etc. king size bed, buffet breakfast was perfect, sausages nicely cooked.. can't say a bad word about it. Definitely recommend it!!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Cosener's House in Abingdon, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! This historic hotel, with its beautiful surroundings and rich character, truly exceeded my expectations. The location is perfect – nestled right on the banks of the River Thames, offering picturesque views and tranquil riverside walks just steps away. It’s an ideal base for exploring the charming town of Abingdon, with its cobbled streets, historic buildings, and the stunning Abingdon Abbey just a short stroll away.
Abingdon itself is a lovely town, full of character and history, yet it’s incredibly accessible to Oxford and the surrounding areas. The train station is just a short walk away, and getting into Oxford takes only about 20 minutes by train – so you can easily enjoy the best of both worlds: the peace and beauty of Abingdon, with quick access to the culture and attractions of Oxford.
The Cosener's House itself was amazing – the rooms were comfortable and well-equipped, and the staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. The hotel’s peaceful setting by the river was perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing, and the charming surroundings made it feel like a true retreat.
I highly recommend The Cosener's House to anyone visiting Abingdon. It’s a wonderful place to stay and a perfect spot to explore this beautiful town and its stunning river views, with easy access to Oxford and beyond. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Abingdon on Thames is a splendid town.
Abingdon on Thames is a splendid town. The river is dominant but lots of good history (MG cars being my favourite) .
Near enough to get to Oxford and Didcot for tourist sites.
Town Hall Museum is great.
Lots of great pubs!!

Before going to the hotel we parked up in Abingdon to look round the shops. First stop was a Costa for lunch and use the toilet. Very close by there was a market selling craft, food and other. Across the road there was a Coventry Building Society, charity shops, and other shops. Close by there are old builds, and museums.

we stayed in the Crown and Thistle for our last two nights and it was superb. Brilliant staff and superior food. We loved the town itself and the museum. Loved the walk along the river to Clifton Hampden - so pretty. Loved the food and service at The Nags Head. We come to Abingdon about once a year and totally love it. Would highly recommend it as a destination

Some of Abingdon is absolutely lovely, and some is absolutely not. Same as most places.
The old part of the town is noticeably pleasant. Around the river and the county hall.
The pedestrian precinct is not an area of beauty. Street St has really good independent shops - books, wool, kitchen etc. Masons on Bath St is a fantastic haberdashery.
The Abbey Meadows are very nice, best children's playground in Britain, probably.

Very cozy and lovely town, full of fields and gardens to walk, explore and love. Long path through the River Thames and some options to hire kayaks and stand up paddle.
Lots of traditional pubs in the town center and very good cafes & restaurants with all kinds of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Very friendly place for dogs including hotels and restaurants.
I can't wait to come back.

Lovely place. Excellent location if you're visiting Oxford by car. Abingdon also has its charms so convenient for that too.
Room was nice, a bit on the smaller end, but perfectly comfortable. There are other options available.
Tasty breakfast and an excellent variety to choose from.
Fantastic staff!!! Friendly and welcoming! Kudos to the team!
Definitely value for money so highly recommended.
We will be staying again for sure.
A grand building with lots of character. Nice surroundings too. A curved staircase led to my room. The business combines a research laboratory with a hotel, which is quite novel. Abingdon is an attractive town and the hotel is well positioned.
Location, the room itself (part of the old brewery). Good to be in a pub location near the town centre. The bedroom and bathroom were both very good.
The wi-fi signal was good . The pub is near to local bus services to Oxford and Didcot.
Restaurant service totally let down the hotel.
1st night, took ages to provide a suitably chilled bottle of white wine.
2nd night we had to wait well over an hour for the food. Several people who ordered after us were served first.
