Boasting panoramic views over the Clyde to the Isle of Arran, and only 5-minutes’ walk from Ayr town center, the hotel presents itself as the ideal base from which to explore the beauty of Ayrshire.

The location was great for a walk along the seafront or a short stroll to the bars and restaurants in the center of town. Staff were very friendly and helpful particularly the manager, reception staff and our cleaner. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean. This hotel is remarkably good value for money.
Close to Ayr seafront and a few yards from the town center, Mercure Ayr is a comfy hotel with gym. Free WiFi is available throughout. The Brasserie Bar and Restaurant serves drinks, snacks and meals.

Ayr is half an hour’s drive from Dumfries House and also Culzean Castle, which were the two attractions we visited and enjoyed. Perfect for us on this trip. We ate out locally in the town, was an easy walk from the hotel, and the bus station.

There were some interesting historical buildings in the town which we enjoyed seeing and finding out about eg. St John's Tower, the Wallace tower and statue, the medieval foot bridge. A big attraction of course was the closeness to Alloway - birthplace of Robbie Burns.
Public transport to various places and signage/ information/timetables about getting around without own transport was not too good. Ayr railway station was half demolished and being refurbished (in 2025) inconvenient, but railways staff were very helpful - as were all bus drivers.
The town itself gave a general air of tiredness with lots of empty shops - unfortunately a state of affairs which many towns seem to be going through.

I loved walking around the peaceful, beautiful streets, looking at all the beautiful, large homes. It felt very safe at night. We were there in February, so not much happening, except going for nice beach walks & a very quiet park for my son to play in, with very few other kids there. He has autism & adhd, so this was perfect for us. Just wrap up well

Its been years since we were at Ayr and it now feels very dirty and run down.
The high street was extremely dirty with dog poo and a lot of shops were boarded up.
There wasn't much to do or see there.

Ayr is a good tourist spot ( the beach, Pirate Pete’s, Haven Craig Tara holiday park, heads of Ayr farm park) and a neat community. The people are friendly, bus drivers are nice, cheap and good transportation system. I really enjoyed my trip.

Ayr town has plenty of shops, pubs and restaurant's with an attractive beach nearby. Head south on a wonderful coastal drive passing coastal villages, castles and sea views. National Trust's Culzean Castle is magnificent and well worth a visit.
Of course Robert Burns was born in Alloway just a short drive from town centre so visit his cottage and the visitor centre.
The room we had was in one of the adjacent buildings. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The staff in the main hotel were very cheery and attentive. The main hotel building is very nice indeed and is very well maintained. The breakfast was buffet with the option to have other choices prepared, all very nice.
The hotel had lovely grounds which were also well maintained.
We walked in to Ayr centre jn the evening which only took about 20 mins.
The staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The hotel and bar were very good and yes I would stay there again when we are next in Ayr.
