This is an old property with lots of character. It has been well refurbished. It’s located in a lovely village in quiet surroundings. It’s very comfortable and ideal for a short stay. The kitchen area is well kitted out. The owner was very helpful in arranging our arrival. We will return for a longer break.

Stayed in the main building - Very clean room. Didn't use the TV or kettle as we were shattered by the time we arrived but they were available for us as well as cups, tea/coffee/sugar and even biscuits.
Beds were comfortable and accessing the room via keybox was really easy.
Breakfast in the morning was delicious. interaction with the staff (lady making the breakfast) was pleasant. In house pup was adorable too. Came over for a back scratch which my teen was over the moon with.
Will definitely be booking again when we need to stop off overnight.

A lovely town with plenty of independent shops and cafes, so much to do and see nearby. Even just a stroll along the river makes for a pleasant afternoon.
I was there to visit family so did not do any of the attractions but it is a good base to visit either the east coast or the Lake district and many of the attractions further afield

Picturesque market town with good choice of shops, cafes and restaurants. If you like Indian food, we recommend the Bengal Merchant Indian restaurant. We also enjoyed the Moments and Rise cafes. There is also a Morrisons supermarket and a Lidl. There are local walks/public footpaths and the town is close to many nice places to visit e.g. High Force waterfall, Hamsterley Forest, Raby Castle and some reservoir walks

Both Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum in Bowes are well worth a visit and there is so much to see in this beautiful part of the world. The Bowes Museum is an amazing collection of fine art, porcelain, textiles, furniture and has an excellent cafe and impressive grounds.

Main purpose of our visit was to attend a concert at The Whitham. A great venue, intimate, atmospheric and with great live sound.
However during the preceding afternoon we browsed the local shops, one of which specialising in books, coffee and records was great! Forgotten the name of it.
Had a lovely cooked lunch in a smart cafe too. Sorry forgot the name of it also.
Beer at ‘The Golden Lion’ was good too. A really nice pub

There is not a lot to see of the castle itself, other than great views over the surrounding valley. We visited in the autumn, and were offered fallen apples to take away. The town of Barnard Castle was worth a visit. There were some lovely quirky shops and free roadside parking on offer.

A lovely place to stay on a working farm. Very peaceful but close enough by car to Barnard Castle etc.
The hosts Karen and Frank couldn't do enough for us and were very welcoming. All the facilities we needed, a clean, comfy bed , warm shower and great choice of breakfast.
A lovely bonus was freshly baked scones for our arrival.
Room had to be changed last minute but was perfect for what we needed! Staff went above and beyond and so friendly and welcoming! Will defo be back! Already planning our next trip to Barnard Castle!
