FAQs about hotels in Birmingham

Top-Class Shopping, Culture and Sport

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centres. Well-known for the M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it is a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.

Most city centre hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping centre, and just behind is Digbeth Coach Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.

The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Centre) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.

Just opposite is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modelled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.

The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top football clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.

Lovely city. It's very easy to get around.

Lovely city. It's very easy to get around. Lots of things in walking distance. I enjoyed the architecture and arts. Love the graffiti. The city is very artsy. If you're an artist, you'd love it. If you're Canadian there's a Tim Hortons for a little slice of home.

The roof gardens in the library are worth a visit and there are many places of interest near the centre. I enjoyed a walk around Edgbaston Reservoir for which you can take a tram to Edgbaston Village. It is easy to get lost coming out of New Street Station and it is difficult to find Centenary Square from there due to building works.

We were at the cricket, but headed into the city on the following morning. I have been before, as I am originally from the Midlands but my wife hadn't been before. The city has changed greatly over the years, for the better, it has a great history, and great architecture, well worth a visit.

Very clean city, friendly helpful people who seem to have pride in Birmingham and its multicultural population. Lots of places to eat, particularly around Brindley Place, Bull Ring is an amazing large shopping mall. Mixture of the very old beautiful buildings and huge new tasteful structures make it an interesting city to walk round.

One of the ugliest and awkward cities I have ever been. It seems like made of bits of different cities from different eras with no kind of urban planing. A mixture of bad taste old fashioned 70’s architecture with loads of yonkis and beggars. Do not go.

The hotel is very conveniently placed, close to Birmingham City Centre and within walking distance of the local tram stop. The hotel is a little dated, but it is a pleasant place to stay and has a certain charm about it. The staff were helpful and the facilities were good. We really enjoyed breakfast and found the room to be comfortable.

The hotel is on one of the main ring roads. The apartment was spacious and had enough facilities to cater for yourself. It's only a short walk to the city centre but a bit further to the Broad Street district. Breakfast was a take-away from an in house supermarket with a similar choice that would be on offer at a petrol station.

The property was well kept clean and tidy. It was ideal for our over night stay and a lot cheaper the paying for individual hotel rooms. It’s only a 15 minute walk to the city centre and easy to find I would stay there again when next visiting Birmingham.
