Known for its sandy beaches and good nightlife, Bournemouth is a popular seaside resort on the Dorset coast between Poole and Christchurch.
The town is centred on the Bourne River, running downhill towards the sea by Bournemouth Pier. This pier looks back towards a promenade lined with beach huts at the foot of grassy cliffs. The promenade continues west to Poole, while a road goes east to neighbouring Boscombe, where anglers often fish from its pier. Overlooking it is a clifftop road housing some Bournemouth hotels with sea views.
Booking.com also offers hotels near the BIC – Bournemouth International Centre in the West Cliff area. This convention centre and music venue is a short walk from the Art Deco Pavilion Theatre, located next to the Lower Gardens. In this popular city park is the Bournemouth Eye, a tethered hot air balloon that offers far-reaching views.
At the park’s top end the river disappears under a large square, then emerges in the Central Gardens. Overlooking these gardens is the Victorian town hall, which used to be one of several spa hotels in Bournemouth. Opposite is a Grade I-listed church, and St Peter’s Church has the grave of Mary Shelley, author of ‘Frankenstein’.
On the outskirts of town, near 4 golf courses and the Castlepoint Shopping Centre, is Bournemouth Airport.

A lovely seaside town with a beautiful clean beach and clear water. It is a very popular place so best during the week outside the school holidays. It can be a problem if you need beakfast before 9am, as most places only open at 9am. We had breakfast at Pret which was excellent. I liked the scenery around the whole town. A nice beach, town centre, gardens, woodland, facilities for all types of people. Everywhere is mostly clean and tidy and friendly. I spend a lot of time running, swimming and cycling and Bournemouth is a great place to experience this. The transport links around town are reliable and everything is pretty much within walking distance. I liked the beach, museum, art gallery, the pier, Athletics track and various gardens. Right here we go.k I lived in Bournemouth on and off for many years.I last visited six years ago and friends had warned me that the town had changed for the worse. I was upset, appalled and furious at what I found. Filthy dirty, drugs and alcohol abuse rampant, shops boarded up, an uneasy feeling walking around even during the day and so the list goes on. I spoke to many tourists who felt likewise and I would advise anyone against visiting. Bournemouth is a fabulous place. The beach and promenade is particularly wonderful. You can walk for absolutely miles in either direction we like to walk to Poole Quayside. Or you can go in the other direction to Hengistbury head. We took the chain ferry over to Swanage, where you can visit beautiful beaches and the Steam Train station. There have been radical changes to Bournemouth the same as many other holiday destinations over recent years. Expectations of it being the same charming quality resort as it was thirty years ago, are not there anymore, this is typical of so many coastal destinations nowadays.
