Canterbury Cathedral Lodge was recommended by a travel guide (Rick Steves's), but we had no idea that it was going to be so excellent. The lodge, gardens and location all exceeded expectations, and made this stop the highlight of our trip.
With a 24-hour front desk, this hotel offers free breakfasts and a modern restaurant. Holiday Inn Express Canterbury is located in Upper Harbledown, just outside historic Canterbury.

Very interesting location, the entryway reminded me of driving into a cemetery. Available breakfast smelled good, and the hotel was well taken care of.

The cottages are quite big and despite them being relatively close to the road it's quite out there. There is some sort of shared garden / green zone that could be nice for kids. Also, dogs friendly!

On average, 3-star hotels in Canterbury cost $129 per night, and 4-star hotels in Canterbury are $173 per night. If you're looking for something really special, a 5-star hotel in Canterbury can be found for $190 per night, on average (based on Booking.com prices).
Canterbury’s religious and historic significance has inspired literary greatness. Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales’ were based on pilgrimages to the bygone shrine of Thomas A Becket, who was murdered here. The Marlowe Theatre is named after the 16th-century playwright born here, and the Canterbury Museum has an exhibit on Rupert Bear, whose author lived in this River Stour city.
River cruises and punting provide fantastic views of the striking weavers’ houses right on the water, and of Westgate - the UK’s largest city gate. Other sections of the city walls remain, and there are also ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey, named after the 6th-century saint who brought Christianity to England. He was the first Archbishop of Canterbury, but the modern-day seat is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed cathedral, dating to the 12th century.
From the same period are the Norman castle ruins, occupying the site of a wooden fort constructed by William the Conqueror. The mound they sit on in Dane John Gardens is thought to be a Roman cemetery, and an original mosaic is visible in the Roman Museum.
In the Buttermarket half-timbered houses and historic inns are interspersed with shops, and big name brands line the Whitefriars Shopping Centre. The Canterbury accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap hostels and city centre B&Bs.

Canterbury is nice for a weekend.
Canterbury is nice for a weekend.
The evenings are spoilt by the usual rowdy drunk element.
There are some lovely places to eat and drink.
Very upset that you cannot walk freely into the Cathedral grounds without paying £19.50. That did include an inside tour but not everyone wants that. Far too expensive. But lots of school trips as children are free. This is a major attraction and needs looking at as the three of us wanted to visit but £60 is far to much.

Canterbury is one of the most amazing cities I have ever had the privilege of living in. The beauty is outstanding, the craftsmanship is just to die for, and the views are just gorgeous. I would very very very highly recommend Canterbury as a place to stay!

What a disappointment!
What a disappointment! The first time we have visited what was a beautiful city for many years, only to find it very run down, dirty and full of rough sleepers in most doorways. Apartment store now a boarded up building and the cathedral charging just under £20 per person to enter….an outrageous price to visit our own heritage. Instead of staying the two days we had planned we went home straight after our one night stay.

For a short stay don't miss the Cathedral or a guided walk around the city. For a relaxing hour then choose a punt. You just sit back and enjoy the scenery and learn about the green part of the city. Lots of well known franchises in terms of restaurants but independent ones as well. Unusual shops especially if interested in clothes and inexpensive but attractive jewellery

The primary purpose of the trip was to visit the Cathedral which was great although I was a bit taken aback that we were charged £39 entrance fee with no OAP concessions.
The surrounding area is full of all the right shops and cafés so a full day is needed.
The Park and Rides make getting into Canterbury a relaxed and easy option over trying to drive in. £4 per day including the bus fares.

Canterbury is a great city for a short break, we live...
Canterbury is a great city for a short break, we live locally but decided to stay for a weekend to see a show at the Marlowe theatre and experience the vibe of the city which does get very busy with tourists, there are still a few good clothing stores and plenty of bespoke shops.
The city has numerous restaurants & bars so there's plenty of choice for eating & drinking etc.
The cathedral is a must although not cheap.
There are lots of other cultural & history options for locals and tourists to visit, far more than could be seen over a weekend, there are also lots of open spaces with gardens and wildlife.

"It was a great week in Canterbury thanks to this wonderful flat. It is very well located (close to public transport and the city centre) and quiet. It is very nicely furnished and well equipped modernly. Highly recommended for those who want to visit Canterbury and its surroundings and enjoy peace and quiet. The owner is very friendly and at your service for any questions. It was really excellent, best appartment via booking com ever!"
Very lovely traditional B&B in the beautiful town of Canterbury. Staff very nice and friendly, room was clean, not big but enough for a one night stay for us. Breakfast was great with choice of eggs, bacons, sausages etc. Wi-Fi working well, Carpark right outside the hotel. Parking in the town centre was a bit expensive to our surprise.
Charming front desk staff were very helpful with parking directions and informing us as to the many amenities this hotel had to offer. Rooms are beautifully clean and comfortable. An amazing selection of hot and cold items for breakfast were provided during our visit. A wonderful centrally located place to stay while visiting Canterbury!
What an amazing house. Everything we needed was there. Very comprehensive information. The beds were really comfortable so a couple of us struggled to get out of their nest in the morning!!! Lyndhurst House is in an excellent area of Canterbury for the city centre and for access to main roads to other places.
The location is fantastic, with plenty of parking out back,
it's only a 10 minute drive to Canterbury city centre,
or 15 from the Wildlife animal park.
The attached restaurant has a fantastic selection of meals and deserts.
The breakfast selection was better than any other hotel I've been to.
