I found this hotel a very nice surprise, very clean and comfy room with ensuite - my only observation with that is that the shower is an over bath type, some may find it harder to step into the bath as oppose to a shower tray.
The small enclosed decking area was nice to sit in on an evening in the good weather.
Breakfast was excellent - a nice breakfast room, with good service and choice - a real highlight.
A lot of thought and effort with detail has gone into this place. I'll definitely stay again when in the area.
An independent, family-run hotel in an extended Victorian home, with many impressive original features. Close to Carlisle city centre and the M6 motorway.

Nice hotel right next to station. Room was big as was the bed. Friendly staff and a nice bar downstairs.
Good location in Carlisle and, despite being next to the rail station, no noise issues. Carlisle itself is quite a nice town.
Recommended.
Nestled amid acres of private woodland and glorious gardens, this magnificent Grade II listed castle is situated on the northern edge of the Lake District, surrounded by a golf club.

I enjoy Carlisle, its history and its vibrant city centre with plenty of places to have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and after-dinner drinks! Its castle is beautiful and I have yet to visit the cathedral. Easy to get around, all within walking distance. If you are looking for vibrant night-life, Carlisle might not be the place for you.

Carlisle is a "big little city".
Carlisle is a "big little city". The centre is easily managed on foot with lots of coffee places, independent shops and restaurants to suit all tastes.
A car can be left behind in the city at bus and train links are easily located and destinations very varied.

Carlisle is an excellent city.
Carlisle is an excellent city. The castle, cathedral, park, shops.
The only downside when visiting February 2025 was the chaos & mess that the centre was going through due to upgrading & re-paving. Hopefully, that will be completed soon.

I have passed through Carlisle numerous times by train, car and bus but never stopped there. I was curious to have a proper look at the town and was very pleasantly surprised by what I found. A charming town with a wide selection of places to eat and drink, the cathedral and castle were well worth visiting and the general atmosphere was friendly and welcoming.

I found that the hotels area was great, right by anything you could need for any couples staying the weekend. I loved the vintage decor and the hotel itself had a cozy atmosphere from the minute we walked in. The staff were lovely and more than happy to help with any query’s we had, especially Bryony who we spoke to on reception. Will definitely be staying again next time we are in Carlisle
Very nice hotel with a charming, old high-class atmosphere. The rooms were clean, the breakfast was excellent, and the location was convenient—close to everything in Carlisle. The host was both helpful and respectful, making my 10-day stay enjoyable and comfortable. Highly recommended!
The location of the hotel is very good, as it's in Carlisle City Centre, and also only a few minutes away from a large supermarket. There was also a very nice breakfast included in the price as well, which meant that the room was very good value for money.
I have stayed at Halston several times before - it is the only hotel in Carlisle I have returned to multiple times and the only one I recommend to colleagues, friends and family.
