FAQs about hotels in Chester

A Walk Through History

Featuring half-timbered buildings, almost complete city walls and a wealth of Roman heritage, beautiful Chester sits by the border with Wales.

The southernmost gate of the walls overlooks the River Dee, and the road leading north is one of 4 in the city to follow the original Roman roads. To the east, the Roman Gardens include a reconstructed underfloor heating system.

Nearby Grosvenor Park has remains of a stone Roman amphitheatre, thought to have been built on the world’s largest wooden amphitheatre at the time. Over the river in the suburb of Handbridge is a 2nd-century shrine to Minerva, and an informative display in the Grosvenor Museum provides the background to all this heritage.

In the west is Chester Racecourse and nearby are the medieval castle remains. More medieval buildings line the cobbled city centre streets. Some of these are The Rows, black-and-white timbered buildings housing 2 levels of shops. Other shopping options are the indoor market by the cathedral, and the Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village in Ellesmere Port to the north. The road out there passes Chester Zoo, one of the UK’s best zoos.

Booking.com’s range of Chester accommodation includes hotels with swimming pools, guest houses by the train station and B&Bs with parking near Chester Airport.

We loved walking along the walls all around the city, it's great fun, kids would also love this. Chester has so many little alleyways and lovely buildings and homes. The shops are varied and unique. It was a charming stay. The nearby Cheshire Oaks outlet was also great to visit, there are some bargains to be found and lots of places to eat out. 3 nights was perfect.

Chester is beautiful, from the amazing River Walk, to the Cathedral and vast array of little Shops. If you like "Olde World" Traditional Pubs also you will be in your element. It's a charming city with unique black and white timbered architecture. The cathedral is wonderful., as is the older former cathedral the Church of St John the Baptist. Dont miss the ruins outside the altar end. The river front area is pleasant and a short river cruise very informative.

We came to Chester for the first time as I wanted to see and walk on the Wall. We saw the famous Clock. We walked the shopping areas, plenty of shops to choose from. The pubs were great too. The Hop On Hop Off Bus allowed us to see all of the sights of Chester and dropped us for a Boat ride down the Dee River. A great place to visit.

The room was very clean and quiet and I found it very comfortable and well lit, with a kettle, fridge and hair dryer included. The hotel is very conveniently placed within walking distance of local shops and other amenities and is also within walking distance of Chester city centre. I also enjoyed the Buffet style breakfast. The staff were very courteous and helpfull There is a reasonable amount of car parking and the carpark at the adjacent Chester House may also be used if all bays at the Chester Court are occupied.

Perfect location to the city centre and train station. Hotel staff were wonderful and on the ball. Really like the easy check in and the hotel grounds where lovely to walk round. I booked a classic double room and really like the feature of the upgrade system, bidding for your room. Which i got a deluxe room and the views were fantastic of chester and Wales.
