The room and the bathroom had plenty of space, it gave much better feeling than in the Lonon hotel. The floor was covered by a very soft carpet, making the room very comfortable, The receptionist is very friendly person. The breakfast was not self-service, but after all the lady was very kind, and we got enough to eat and drink, and even delicious deserts.

Coventry FAQ: Tips for every trip

The Legacy of Legends

South-east of Birmingham, Coventry is best known for the shell of its old cathedral, a poignant reminder of the damage sustained during World War II. Part of its northern wall joins the new Modernist cathedral, designed by Sir Basil Spence.

In the neighbouring gardens are remains of an 11th-century Benedictine monastery set up by Lord Leofric. His wife - Lady Godiva - became Coventry’s greatest legend by riding naked on horseback in protest at her husband’s high taxes.

St Mary’s Guildhall is built on part of the old castle, and Baginton on the city’s outskirts houses the reconstructed Roman Lunt Fort. Also here is Coventry Airport, by the Midland Air Museum, whose exhibits include a Vulcan.

The Coventry Transport Museum houses examples of vehicles manufactured in the city over the years. Also historic are the canals north of the city centre, lined by Grade II-listed buildings. Other attractions include the Warwick Arts Centre – the UK’s 2nd largest – and the Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry City FC. The Sky Dome Arena is an ice hockey and music venue, while the best shopping is found in Arena Park Centre.

The city has 2 universities, so naturally features many bars and restaurants. There are also several Coventry hotels, guest houses and country houses on Booking.com, most with parking and some with pools.

I went to Coventry with the sole intention of visiting the National Transport Museum. I planned my trip carefully and stayed for 2 nights over 3 days. The transport museum is wonderful and I spent almost the entire time there. You pay once and can revisit whenever you like for a year. I did have a walk around the city centre and it seemed to have everything you could want. I walked up by the Cathedral and it was nice there. On the negative side; I felt a bit intimidated by the large number of food delivery riders whizzing around the streets with little regard for pedestrians. I went back to my hotel early each evening because I didn't feel comfortable on the street.

We had a terrible experience with this hotel, after getting soaked at a football tournament,I looked forward to having a hot shower, they had a broken boiler, there was no internet & no extra pillows!! In the year of 2026 you expect to be able to take a shower or at least be told when checking in! The worst thing was we missed our second day of the tournament!!!😡😡😡

Coventry cathedral is always my main reason for visiting.

Coventry cathedral is always my main reason for visiting. It's just incredible. Never mind that the new cathedral is one of the ugliest buildings I know - it's also the most beautiful in its meaning and symbolism and still has its beautiful old cathedral medieval ruins and tower. Start in the ruins and follow the story of destruction and then bravery and reconciliation before you move into the new cathedral; make sure you walk right to the altar steps and then turn around and see the wonderful blaze of coloured glass that's been hiding in plain sight until now. If you want to see courage, acceptance and resurrection in stone and glass, this place is for you. You will be welcomed, no matter your faith or non-faith and encouraged to wander around, to be yourself, to find your own meaning in its architecture, and just to experience this amazing place. If in doubt, google 'Coventry cathedral welcome sign'. I've visited all the Anglican cathedrals in England and this is the one that I come back to every few months. You'll be given a similarly warm welcome at St. Clare's at the cathedral, a separate church in what used to be the cathedral gift shop. It has a huge variety of gifts and will welcome you whoever you are and wherever you find yourself in life... you might even choose to buy some of the jewellery that I make to support them! Aside from these two, Coventry's a hugely diverse city with a proud history of resistance and resilience (google Lady Godiva if you don't already know the story), a wonderful market hall where just about every culture on earth seems to sell something and a city centre that is dotted with historic buildings and remains amongst the post-war architecture. I'm proud to call it my second home.

We couldn't understand why the medieval centre of Coventry, including the cathedral, was not rebuilt after large-scale destruction during the war. Similarly historic cities in Germany, like Wurzburg, were rebuilt from the ground up. The area around the old and new cathedrals is tacky and hideous, with the largest Primark I've ever seen right next door!

The location was perfect for a visit to the CBS Arena and access to the motorway. A bus service from the hotel was useful to get into the centre of Coventry. Our room overlooked the rear of the property, so a nice view and it was quiet. I would like to highly commend staff member Amelia. She was extremely helpful and friendly throughout our stay. A great ambassador for the hotel.
