Historic Pioneer with Noble Connections
Bordering the Peak District, pioneering Derby was the site of the first factory during the Industrial Revolution. The city was a silk producer and a former mill forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Derwent Valley Mills, lining the Derwent River between Derby and Matlock.
Also by the river is Darley Park which hosts an annual chamber orchestra concert. The city centre arboretum was England’s first public park, and Markeaton Park in the north-west has a light railway. Nearby is the university campus and 18th-century Kedleston Hall, a Palladian-style mansion involved in filming of ‘The Duchess’.
Another royal connection is Bonnie Prince Charlie who stayed at Exeter House. A replica of his room is in Derby Museum and Art Gallery, and there is a statue of him in Cathedral Square. Opposite is the oldest pub, the Dolphin Inn, but the best nightlife is around Friar Gate.
The nearby Cathedral Quarter is full of eateries and shops, and the Westfield Centre houses big name brands. The Grade II-listed Market Hall offers a range of stalls above underground tunnels which are supposedly haunted by one of Derby’s many ghosts.
Derby County FC play at Pride Park, near the train station and several hotels with parking. Booking.com also offers cheap apartments and guest houses near East Midlands Airport.

I got my car remapped there and whilst I was there visited...
I got my car remapped there and whilst I was there visited the Museum of Making. Well worth while. Bought a bottle of home made apple wine. Tastes lovely with a good kick of alcohol and the car was good previously but now it's impressive.

Never been to Derby before and we found it a great city.
Never been to Derby before and we found it a great city. Everyone was very friendly, it was clean and tidy and the Derbian shopping centre was huge! Loved the pubs too. I'm booking again for next year.

Didn’t visit Derby. Highlights Calke Abbey and Stoneywell. Melbourne itself is a very attractive village to visit with many Georgian houses. The ancient church, the Hall and gardens and a lovely walk around the Pool. I wish I had been there for the forthcoming festival.

Great place staff to improve on friendliness and ask if we need any more help, serve with a smile especially cleaning staff and those at the good point very arrogant when asked for other things like request for grilled tomatoes I don’t eat baked beans and would have been very happy to get grilled tomatoes with my breakfast clean towels after 3 hours in case I had showered more than once

Visiting for a football match so didn't go into city centre on this occasion although first impressions on previous visit was good.
Would highly recommend Nicco's indian restaurant, food, service and decor excellent (best ladies toilet I have seen).

We used to visit Derby many years' ago.
We used to visit Derby many years' ago. The city centre is not the beautiful place it used to be. The shopping area in part comprised tattoo parlours, nail bars and charity shops. The once charming arcades have lost all their charm.

The Hotel is perfectly located in probably the most impressive part of the city. The Cathedral Quarter.
With grand views of the Cathedral from outside the entrance. The building is a totally historic structure and I loved staying here in what is a very smart hotel. The room I had was spacious and the ensuite first class. It's a shame I didn't have longer.
The staff were welcoming and the service excellent.
Rooms downstairs had plenty of space.
When next in Derby I'll be enjoying staying again.

Hotel is well situated for Derby football matches (about 20 minutes walk) and around 30 minutes walk to city centre.
Stay here if you are going to the football as parking is easy and gives you the opportunity for a night out in Derby also, all at a reasonable price.
Rooms are very basic, but that is reflected in the price paid.

Value for money was outstanding, and location to Derby city center was perfect, just outside of it but within easy walking distance. The hotel room and breakfast were as you would expect, nothing great, but nothing to complain about either. Would definitely stay again, suited my needs perfectly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Every member of staff was so friendly and helpful. Great breakfast and dinner was also excellent. Derby city centre is a short 25 minute walk. The retail park behind the hotel also has lots of great shops.
