The apartment we stayed at was not clean, there was cobwebs hanging from the light fittings a dead spider was by the toilet. It looked at though the apartment had been left for some time and not cleaned fro a while

We appreciated being able to bring the dog, and being able to extend check-out to 5 p.m. for £20. Bed very comfortable. Being near the beautiful Close.

The food was exceptional, especially for the prices (we only had time for an evening meal and breakfast). Spacious accommodation with well-thought out attention to every detail and more. Super comfy bed and all so clean. Really friendly family feel among the staff and owners who were discreet but welcoming at the same time. A real hidden gem we weren't expecting. We will definitely be back!

Location was dreamy and from another world. On the Avon. Yet a short walk from town. Our bedroom was overlooking the river with the mill underneath providing a relaxing sound and drowned out human noise too late at night. Bed very comfortable too. We had breakfast which was good quality.

Really good location and somewhere we often stay when we visit Salisbury. Staff are nice, the rooms are good, although sometimes a bit small. The breakfast was generous!
Downton is an excellent small town with a mix of very old,...
Downton is an excellent small town with a mix of very old, old, and new buildings, with many points of interest, including the island of King John's hunting lodge near the site of one of the first small electricity generators in Britain and opposite the old imposing tannery building in the old town. The Borough, situated in the 'newer' settlement to the west, was established over two centuries ago, with stone numbers inset on those houses whose freeholders had a vote, and an ancient cross marking where elections of two MPs to the House of Commons took place. Nowadays once a year on the Saturday before the May Day Bank holiday there is a Cuckoo Fair that sees the whole place decorated and thousands come to hear music, eat and drinks, and buy from scores of stalls along the Green. It was the Fair that brought me to Downton this year (2025), staying near the prehistoric and possibly Saxon Moot and within easy walking distance of the centre of activities. Prehistory and ancient and modern history are rich in Downton (it's the real one!) and it's worth visiting at any time. And the locals are friendly!

The Shorefield park at Downton is a lovely holiday park, clean, well kept and in a great location. Just a 15 minute walk to the beach, a 35 minut walk into Milfor od Sea and just a short drive into the New Forest. The facilities on site have everything you need if you don't want to venture out, i.e. Bar, Restaurant, Gym, Swimming Pool and evening entertainment. I would highly recommend it.

Just a short break for the new forest as we had not visited for many years. Ideal for a short break, the owners had made the accommodation most comfortable and in our opinion spotless, so a big thank you for all there efforts.. We hope to stay again as the location was ideal...

The local view of The Bull is "only go there if you want a fight or drugs" - i'd say that is pretty accurate. As for our room, the plumbing barely worked, the noise from ventilation ducts was intolerable and the TV didnt work, not that it would have been audible above the noise. Dreadful place and I dont have particularly high standards.

We loved the close proximity of the pubs.
We loved the close proximity of the pubs. We had an excellent meal at The Goat and a lovely drink in the garden of the pub opposite. There was a convenience store at the garage close by and a Coop in the town.
The town was very close to the New Forest.
