FAQs about hotels in Edinburgh

A Feast for the Senses

A city of heritage, heart and of course Hogmanay, Scotland’s capital is vibrant and edgy. Whether or not you come for one of its many festivals, Edinburgh is quite simply a feast for the senses.

The wealth of Edinburgh sights ranges from Holyrood Palace to the Botanical Gardens, Princes Street to the Royal Mile. Overseeing them all is majestic Edinburgh Castle. Be there at sunset on a clear day to see the city below bathed in a warm, orange glow. Simply stunning.

Wandering the streets, the smell of fish and chips wafts by, with the unique twist of salt ‘n’ sauce – a must-try variation on this favourite dish. Follow it up with a smooth whisky and you’ll start to feel like a local.

For a taste of Scottish culture, a kilt-wearing busker often plays the bagpipes on Waverley Bridge, while traditional folk music can be heard in some Old Town pubs. Complete your stay with a rugby match at Murrayfield or a round at one of the city’s 14 golf clubs, and you’ll have the true Edinburgh experience.

Whether you are looking for hotels near Edinburgh Airport or accommodations in the city center, Booking.com has a great range to choose from.

We were in Scotland for 3 weeks, but only spent 3 days in Edinburgh. It is an expensive city to stay in - and can be easily accessed by staying in nearby areas for much less cost. The Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace and Park and Princes Street are a must, and we enjoyed exploring all of these areas. We primarily traveled around the city by taxi, as parking is difficult to find and expensive when you do! There's a lot more to see in Scotland than just Edinburgh, so don't spend all of your time in this one place.

(Spent 4 days in the Scottish Highlands first, which was stunning and then made our way down to the city. Had a car, but parking is SO expensive, we left it parked and took the buses.)) Architecture is amazing. People are lovely. Loved walking through Princes Street park below the castle, the picturesque Victoria street, Arthur's seat (quite the hike up, but worth the view), Calton Hill (acropolis), National Museum of Scotland, National Gallery, the Royal Mile (expensive restaurants and shops, but you have to do it), and the Royal Botanical Gardens with dinner in local Stockton. A lot to do --- would love to come back again and spend more time!

This marks my 9th trip to Edinburgh and Scotland overall.

This marks my 9th trip to Edinburgh and Scotland overall. My first trip was in 2017 to visit my former high school teacher living in Edinburgh, but I left before the Fringe Festival began. I decided to come back in 2018 to experience the Fringe, and I've been back in 2019, 2022, and 2024. Old Town is marvelous with several tours available through Viator, and the New Town has its charms as well. I even returned for a New Year's Ceilidh, a folk dancing evening on New Year's Eve. One could easily spend a week or longer in Edinburgh, and go to other amazing towns within two hours' train ride, including Glasgow, Glencoe, Perth, Linlithgow, Stirling, Aberdeen, and even slightly further places like Inverness. I highly recommend traveling to Scotland at least once. For the brave of heart, the Fringe Festival runs nearly all of August with over 4,000 acts including dance, comedy, improv, magic, musicals, drama, children's shows, and so much more, including the Military Tattoo in a stadium built in the Edinburgh Castle car park. This Tattoo celebrates the bagpipe tradition, with different celebrations every year. Favorite spots: Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, Giles Cathedral, Mary King's Close, Museum of Scotland, Greyfriar's Kirk. Favorite Eats: The World's End, Deacon Brodie's Pub, Edinburgh Street Food, Happy Lamb Hot Pot. Favorite activities: Tour of the Castle, Mary King's Close Night Tour, Edinburgh Dungeon, Edinburgh Ghost Bus Tour, Johnnie Walker's Whiskey Tour, the Scott Monument (climb it), and Princes Street Gardens.

We enjoyed the variety of attractions and the ease of walking around the city. We especially enjoyed the water of Leith walkway from Dean Bridge to Leith harbour although the signposting could be better. Great choice of cafes and restaurants on our arrival in Leith. The Royal Mile was disappointing with too many tacky tourist shops. Princess Street lacks quality shops and is poor for the main shopping thoroughfare of a capital city. However, St James Quarter partially compensates for this with some excellent shops and eateries. We enjoyed a mix of great pub food at the Abbotsford Arms, great food and ambience at Cafe Andaluz in George St, and an excellent Sunday lunch in more formal surroundings at the Dome. One of our highlights was 'a night at the opera' at St Giles Cathedral.

Great location in the city centre of Edinburgh, so we could walk everywhere. Big parking garage under the shopping center next door (the hotel is actually above the shopping center as well), which is very convenient when you go here by car. The concierge showed us the shortest and easiest way from the hotel to the car park by walking with us, which we thought was great! Comfortable beds and spacious room, overlooking the roof garden and Calton Hill.

I like this place - the staff are really helpful and it is a comfortable, clean and affordable place to stay near to the city centre where hotel prices soar and you don't get any more for your money. Recommend the hotel for a great stay in Edinburgh, and the parking is handy even if they have put on a price on it more recently, but still affordable.

We booked this hotel because it was cheap and relatively close to Edinburgh city centre. The hotel was lovely and cosy. My fiancéé and I don't have any shame towards/with each other, so having the shower and toilet pretty much in the bedroom was not an issue for us at all. As regards cleanliness, staff, facilities - all fantastic!
