GermanyI spend three nights at the Holiday Inn Express - Exeter and seldom have I experienced such a service-orientated and friendly group of hotel staff, without expection. For me, the location was perfect, just next to the river, not too far from the centre of town. Breakfast was good with a variety of English fare, and most importantly, the coffee was excellent. Even when I remained in my room til late morning, the cleaning service took care that everything was immaculate for the next evening. I'll be back!

United KingdomVery well presented. The piano in the foyer is a nice touch and I heard several guests playing it which added to the nice atmosphere. The location was excellent for walking to Exeter centre and the shopping precinct. I needed help with a couple of things during my stay and staff were approachable and accommodating.

A Host of History
Set around the Exe River, affluent Exeter has played a part in English history from the Roman era to William the Conqueror to the Spanish Armada. Its most impressive structure is the cathedral, begun in the 11th century and boasting the longest stone roof in England.
The surrounding green is a popular picnic spot, and the half-timbered buildings and red-brick façades of the neighbouring High Street house a host of shops. Even more are in the Princesshay and Guildhall shopping centres.
The Guildhall itself is considered England’s oldest municipal building still in use, while nearby Parliament Street is one of the world’s narrowest streets. The remains of 11th-century St Nicholas Priory are now a museum, and there are more red-stone ruins at hilltop Exeter Castle (or Rougemont Castle), built into the Roman walls.
Exeter Central Station is behind the castle, while St Davids Station is nearer the university. The large student population means that the city has good nightlife, and some bars are located by the Quayside, site of Custom House. The river flows past Topsham and Powderham Castle to enter the sea at Exmouth.
To the east are Exeter Airport and the Westpoint Arena exhibition centre, both easily reached from Booking.com’s hotels with spas, cheap apartments and guest houses with parking.

A very beautiful Campus within wallking distance of the town centre. The University site is very hilly but has a range of resources to suit all needs, I have to use an electric scooter to get round and that was fine at the University.

Exeter is a lovely little place for a weekend trip.
Exeter is a lovely little place for a weekend trip. The Cathedral Square has a great vibe as does Exeter Quayside with lovely places to eat and drink. Exmouth is also only a short drive away, which is also makes a nice little day trip destination.

A lot of Exeter is accessible from the central location of...
A lot of Exeter is accessible from the central location of the apartment. That incudes shopping, fine dining, historical buildings and Exeter Quays riverside attraction. The quickest way to go to the M5 Junction (30) was the Topsham road, A3015. This was also a good route to go to Exmouth for a day trip.

Not the cheapest in the area on that night but conveniently placed for me. I got a good room. Other guests that have stayed here before told me that rooms in other parts of the complex are different. Staff here work hard to make a good stay

We visited Exeter purely to visit the Royal Albert museum and art galley.
It was a really relaxing experience but probably designed to cater for children. However, the atmosphere was lovely, but the lack of 'art' disappointing.
I loved the area where children could create their own art! The staff employed there and throughout the building were excellent and so pleasant.
A big disappointment was the lack of access to the 'Roman section'. We'll return when that's open.

Exeter is quite hilly which I didn't see mentioned in any...
Exeter is quite hilly which I didn't see mentioned in any tourist advertising. I had 2 days to explore, but felt I saw everything i wanted to see in one day, the second day I hopped on the train and went elsewhere before returning home.
Before coming to Exeter I choose it because it was somewhere I had never been, and living less than an hour away by train, I felt like it would be a good place to go.
I'm sad to say it didn't live up to expectations, and being someone with a lower mobility I found it challenging to walk as much as I would normally do because of the hilly nature.
Exeter is probably not somewhere I would visit again.

Staff were professional and friendly. The hotel has a wow factor, beautiful staircase and reception rooms , and feels very grand . We were there for graduation season, and the hotel provided complimentary fizz, refreshments, and delicious cup cakes ! Also, nice touches in the room. Extremely clean, comfortable, and perfect location close to Exeter town centre, railway station and Northernhay gardens, perfect when you have a dog. Highly recommend.

The hotel was modern, clean, and conveniently located, making it an excellent choice for a short stay in Exeter. The room was spacious, comfortable, and well equipped with everything needed. The staff were friendly, efficient, and welcoming throughout the stay. The breakfast was enjoyable, and the hotel’s proximity to the city centre made it easy to explore local attractions and restaurants.

It’s quite close to the town centre and the Exeter Christmas market. There is parking available and the room was a good size with a modern en-suite. Having breakfast included in the price is a nice extra. But the best thing is the staff - all really helpful and attentive, especially the reception manager, Levente, who went out of his way to make our stay comfortable and our check-in easy.

Charlotte on reception made me feel very welcome, she is a great ambassador for the pub & hotel, the room was nicely decorated with good quality bedding & fluffy towels, the room was very clean , there is no AC but a fan is provided, very close to the town centre, on site secure parking was also a bonus, I would definitely stay here again when visiting Exeter.
