FAQs about hotels in Glasgow

Fun-Loving and Forward Thinking

Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow combines Victorian architecture and a vibrant arts scene. A former European City of Culture, it is home to many national organisations including the Scottish Ballet and the National Theatre of Scotland. The museums are also world class. Not to be missed are the futuristic-looking Glasgow Science Centre and the eclectic exhibits at the Kelvingrove.

Lined with Georgian buildings, George Square is the city’s focal point and the spot for Glasgow Hogmanay celebrations. Fanning out from here are streets housing venues for the city’s main love: music. From classical concerts to up-and-coming bands, every taste is catered for.

As host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow is also a city of sport. Scotland’s 2 most iconic football clubs - Celtic and Rangers - are based here, as is the national football stadium Hampden Park. The Scottish Football Museum is also an excellent walk through the beautiful game.

Last but not least is the shopping in Glasgow. Shopping centres cover everything from high street brands to international designers. So when you fly into Glasgow Airport, make sure you’ve left enough space in your bags!

Sorry I was attending a convention and didn't get the opportunity to see much of Glasgow. Would like to come back again and see a lot more. We ate at the Taphouse iBar and Kitchen, 1046 Argyle street. Finnieston, Glasgow G3 8LY. The Club sandwich was very reasonable and very filling if you add chips. We couldn't finish it all. The staff were lovely, helpful and friendly. We had a lovely Spaghetti bolognaise at Ask Italian just a short distance from the bus station at end of Road. It does have a number of steps up to the entrance. We look forward to our next visit.

The hop on/off bus was great. -Two routes. The Transport museum was fabulous. Like a film set with so many items from the past through to the future. The history museum is well worth a visit too. Glasgow has such beautiful architecture wirh lots of high buildings with rooftop dormer windows -not just the municipal buildings. The shopping mall had everything and we had breakfast at The Ivy in the mall, -very stylish and at a fair price.

Glasgow has a lot to offer in the way of history, architecture, fine dining, live music, banter, pubs and a gateway to the rest of Scotland. BUT, sometimes you have to look hard for it or ignore some of the effects of decay and austerity. One tip, in the city centre, look up at buildings, not just the ground level. There are some hidden gems and the museums are great, and free.

It's not the most unique Scottish town, but if you're in the area it's worth spending a few days. The city center is small, easy to get around and full of great restaurants and pubs. There were a lot of murals in the city, which I really liked. The necropolis is a short walk from the city centre and is definitely worth seeing.

Get yourself a good street map, Glasgow is big!

Get yourself a good street map, Glasgow is big! When using the bus it's no good remembering where you got off as the one way system means you'll get back on somewhere different! Lots of places to eat and drink, good shopping. Could do with more places to sit outside. Kelvingrove museum a great place to visit for all the family. The Botanic gardens are a lovely oasis and well worth a visit.

The hotel and the bedrooms themselves were very modern and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The room size was fine, all hotel rooms in Glasgow are small, but the Sandman was by far the best Glasgow hotel we've stayed in. The location was also excellent for getting into the city centre. We were only there for one night, so we didn't eat or drink in the hotel. However, this will now be our go-to hotel for visiting Glasgow!

An excellent hotel that is great value. Rooms were very clean and nicely designed, great location in the west end opposite Kelvingrove park and museum.. Locally lots of nice restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk and the city centre also within walking distance. The staff here were very friendly, attentive and professional and the breakfast buffet was very good. Highly recommended for a stay in the west end of Glasgow.
