FAQs about hotels in Glasgow

Fun-Loving and Forward Thinking

Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow combines Victorian architecture and a vibrant arts scene. A former European City of Culture, it is home to many national organisations including the Scottish Ballet and the National Theatre of Scotland. The museums are also world class. Not to be missed are the futuristic-looking Glasgow Science Centre and the eclectic exhibits at the Kelvingrove.

Lined with Georgian buildings, George Square is the city’s focal point and the spot for Glasgow Hogmanay celebrations. Fanning out from here are streets housing venues for the city’s main love: music. From classical concerts to up-and-coming bands, every taste is catered for.

As host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow is also a city of sport. Scotland’s 2 most iconic football clubs - Celtic and Rangers - are based here, as is the national football stadium Hampden Park. The Scottish Football Museum is also an excellent walk through the beautiful game.

Last but not least is the shopping in Glasgow. Shopping centres cover everything from high street brands to international designers. So when you fly into Glasgow Airport, make sure you’ve left enough space in your bags!

Wonderful old stone buildings, and lots of wild green space.

Wonderful old stone buildings, and lots of wild green space. If you like green and wet stone and warm friendly people. Also good shopping, eating, and nightlife. Cons: Lots of new ugly modern box buildings are slowly replacing all the parks and countryside. Also the amount of litter has increased drastically and is spilling over into the surrounding countryside. But this is fixable! But please respect the city if you come visit.

Very friendly and helpful people. Lively city.

Very friendly and helpful people. Lively city. Wonderful old buildings. Kelvin Grove Park is amazing, and right in the middle of the city. Unfortunately, they’re removing a lot of the green area to build new very ugly boxes, mostly student accommodation high rises. The old university buildings are very nice though. Check out the free museums, including the free Zoology museum at the university, and the Hunterian and art gallery, as well as the Kelvingrove museum, and walk through Kelvingrove park and by the river between the two. All within walking distance of each other and the West end.

Glasgow is full of great things. the art galleries Kelvingrove and the Burrell are of international class and the musical scene, classical and pop is excelent. there are many clubs etc for young people and there is plenty to do. BUT Though it has imposing architecture the centre is a bit of a mess with long time construction work and driving is a nightmare with bus lanes suddenly appearing and disappearing. It is easy to feel unsafe at night in certain areas downtown. No change given on the expensive public bus transport. I would definitely reccomend a visit but bear the problems I have mentioned above

We didn't venture into the main city centre, choosing instead to focus around our hotel. We went to see Raye on Friday night in The Hydro. Such a fantastic gig, great venue. The Moxy SEC was perfect for us. On Saturday we went out for brunch (cheeky itison deal) on Argyll Road then wandered back to the hotel. We chilled there for a while then went to Golf Fang, only a 10 min walk from the hotel, absolutely brilliant place, we played interactive darts and had a few drinks. We then, on the recommendation from staff at golf fang went to watch rugby at Oran Mor on The Byres Road. We enjoyed walking back to the hotel visiting a few pubs on the way. Always someone to talk to. Glasgow's got a great vibe, relaxed and friendly, welcoming place you love to come back to.

Old city centre, historic buildings architecture, restaurants, are amazing, as is shopping theres every shop you need. Cathedral is a stunning feat of architecture. Babs Mediterranean restaurant was our favourite. A lot of the restaurants are excellent and queues are outside, so book in advance! We went to concert at Ovo Hydro, great concert venue. Easy and cheap to get to by rail, dont use taxis. Excellent rail network around and outside the city.
