A warm welcome from thoughtfull and attentive hosts. The room was spacious and modern. It had been finished to a high standard with comfort in mind. The accommodation had everything that we needed, including a 'silent' fan for night time cooling. Fresh milk in the fridge and two comfy chairs to relax in.

Canterbury was lovely. The cathedral is a must see.

Canterbury was lovely. The cathedral is a must see. The centre was lovely to walk around. It feels very safe. Lots of nice shops and places to eat too. We went to Dover castle excellent full day spent. Walmer castle is also worth a visit. We drove a bit further away on a scenic route to Battle if you like your history it was also worth a trip out. We went to Hastings to visit the beach as it was hot. A lot of beaches have pebbles so are not that comfortable for sit/ lie on. We didn’t go into Hastings . So if you are wanting a beach research the best beaches.

We really only came to Margate this time, but have been to other places in Kent before. The coastal towns are fascinating and beautiful The hinterland, the countryside is charming and the landscapes very varied. Kent is a big county and no single description can describe the huge variety of landscapes and places!

Although the reason for my visit this time was a sad one; I still enjoyed my brief trip - apart from the M25…. Other than catching up with more family than I knew I had, the other highlight was my “pilgrimage” to Dungeness with a stop off at the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway at New Romney Station - always worth a visit no matter how short. The Canterbury Lodge was an unexpected delight - from the lady host: Lisa, to the 4poster bed to the excellent breakfast - only downside was the marmalade! Travel around Kent is not easy, mainly due to the interminable roadworks - so a bit of planning with a map is a good idea, along with local traffic reports &/or a satnav’ that knows where it’s going…. Do try to put the prospect of the return trip via the Dartford Tunnel to the back of your mind for as long as possible.

Spoiled for choice for coffee shops and good restaurants.

Spoiled for choice for coffee shops and good restaurants. But book ahead for dinner. The Shell Grotto is well worth a visit and good gift shop attached. The Turner Gallery is free to visit and the exhibit was excellent and the David Hockney window amazing but only one Turner to see - surely could have a few more? Easy to get to from London and trains on time and comfortable.
