The lady at reception was very friendly and welcoming. She helped us get a taxi and found us a good location to get it to. There was a gentleman that brought up room service and had found my partners wallet that he didn't realised he's dropped. All very helpful. Rooms were cleaned and comfortable too.

FAQs about hotels in Lincoln

The Glory of Medieval England

Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.

Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.

This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.

Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.

Booking.com’s Lincoln accommodation covers luxury waterfront hotels, guest houses by the university and cheap apartments near the train station.

We loved the quaintness of the part of town where our hotel was and we found the people very friendly. The cathedral is awe inspiring and the castle was well worth a visit too. We took the bus tour (got on by the arch leading to Cathedral) and at £10 it is good value (takes about a hour and a half). We learnt a lot about Lincoln on the tour.

Fantastic place if you like a bit of history.

Fantastic place if you like a bit of history. Cathedral looked amazing but we didn't pay to go in as time was short. We will return to visit this and the Castle. Very helpful in the tourist info centre. Lovely old buildings in the streets near the cathedral.

The City has made the tourist area traffic free and retains a feeling of the past at every corner. All facilities are good for food and drink. local run around bus, free to pensioners with a bus pass and step on and off as you desired. A perfect break that we both loved.

We wanted to see the castle and the cathedral, both well worth seeing, and were really pleased to find that there was a shuttle bus to get up there every 20 minutes. The museum of Lincolnshire life was very interesting and free. There is so much history in Lincoln, so many interesting buildings and a lovely marina with canalside walks. Disappointed that Lincoln museum was closed and that the sightseeing boat along the canals was not operating. Not good in the holiday season.

The exterior of the Cathedral (literally over the road from our rooms) was the most breath taking of any other I have visited here or abroad. Arriving on a Sunday evening, there was no problem finding somewhere decent to eat &/or drink within walking distance. The following morning provided excellent walking, sightseeing, shopping etc opportunities as well as the manageable challenge walking back up the Steep Hill; much needed after the previous days 3 hrs driving!

It was quirky - basically rooms in a converted church, comfortable with 2 armchairs x why do many hotels assume a couple only need one?, ultra well placed very close to Lincoln Cathedral, with friendly staff. The limited breakfast - croissant and yoghurt left at your door was well flagged beforehand, and more was available nearby if needed. There are plenty of local restaurants, (but booking is advised as it gets very busy).

The hotel is in a good location for visiting friends or businesses South Lincoln area and Lincoln. There's a lot of traffic but the rooms are double glazed so it's not a noise issue. I stay was good to average for this kind of hotel.

The Lincoln Hotel is looking very tired, the rooms desperately need an upgrade, but the staff were very nice. Unfortunately because of the rooms we will not stay again.
