A city of many cities: London is vast.
A city of many cities: London is vast. There’s far too much to see and do in one trip, let alone a lifetime. Every area feels like its own little world, with its own character and energy, so where you stay really shapes your experience. I stayed right on Piccadilly Circus, a stone's throw from the West End, which is perfect for exploring Chinatown, which has an incredible range of restaurants. I used to live in London and know it well. I come every year to visit friends, so I don't go to the normal tourist places. My preferred mode of transport is by London Taxi as I believe they are probably the best cabbies in the world. If I go out of London, I would take a train or rent a car. As a born and bred Londoner, visiting again has made me realise why I left in the first place. Dirty, overcrowded, most of the outer areas have turned into slums. I'd recommend getting a tube to the fully restored Battersea power station. The venue itself is full of interesting shops and things to do but the best part is boarding the Uber Clipper for an inexpensive river cruise (about £6-9) through many of Londons top sites with a close up view of the London Eye, the houses of parliament for example. We took the clipper to the pier near Shakespeares Globe theatre and Tate Modern but visited the area of bankside and around the borough market which is only a stone's throw from the hotel as well. London is what you make of it, there is everything there but you have to experiment. The culture is good, music and art. The south bank is a pleasant walk with the music halls, street food and galleries. The museums are excellent.
