I especially like grand old hotels, with lots of character and this description certainly fits the Duke of Cornwall hotel. It's lovely, and the staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. Even the single room had character, a bath, and a huge window.

We always stay at the St Elizabeth because it's the best hotel in Plymouth and we are never disappointed with the service and the room.
We also had a meal which was excellent and good value.

From prehistory to the present, the very essence of Plymouth has been inextricably linked to the sea. The Pilgrim Fathers departed from here and named their new Massachusetts settlement after it, and Sir Francis Drake famously finished his game of bowls on The Hoe before combatting the Spanish Armada.
Western Europe’s largest naval base – HMNB Devonport – is in its natural harbour, and in The Barbican fishing boats bob up and down by cobbled streets lined with historic buildings. Jacka Bakery here is the oldest in Britain and there are plenty of galleries, bars and restaurants, though Union Street has the best nightlife.
At one end of the street is the Theatre Royal, and from the other ferries depart to France and Spain, passing the Mount Batten peninsula and offshore rocks that once housed Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse, now in Hoe Park next to the Royal Citadel.
Overlooking the park is the Lord Mayor’s residence, once home to Waldorf and Nancy Astor, and other street and building names are reminders of Plymouth’s illustrious connections.
Other attractions include the National Marine Aquarium, the City Museum and Art Gallery and Grade II-listed Saltram House. All are easily reached from Booking.com’s Plymouth accommodation, including luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap guest houses and country houses with parking.

Situated on the south Devon coast Plymouth is the perfect place for a holiday. The city centre is very good and within easy reach of buses and trains. The Hoe and Barbican area is steeped in history and based on the Plymouth sound has very good views of the surrounding countryside. On the left you have the Devon coastline and the right is the Cornish one. A short ferry ride will take you to Mount Batten where you can walk up the coastal park to Jennycliff which has great views and a great cafe. Within easy reach of Torbay and Love makes it also a great starting point for further exploring

Plymouth is very pretty, lots of restaurants, pubs and individual shops. But all round the Barbican are cobbled stones. Difficult to walk on and very difficult to ride on in a mobility scooter with hardly any dropped kerbs.

Lots of interesting places to see Plenty of places to eat Especially recommend. Turtle Bay Caribbean restaurant only downside was long walk from railway station-not a problem for younger people but a challenge for elderly. The Barbican area is an absolute must Personally I loved the indoor market and the variety of goods for sale

The town centre is tired and a little run down, but why visit Plymouth to shop? Go explore the seafront, The Hoe, the Barbican, take a ferry over to Mt Edgecombe, Mt Batten Breakwater, and Drakes Island. Grab a hot beverage and relax, and watch the sea calm you down. If you have a car, Plymouth is a good place to visit other quaint coastline towns. You won't be disappointed.

Site of fascinating fishing, naval, and Mayflower history!
Site of fascinating fishing, naval, and Mayflower history! I barely scratched he surface of all there is to see and do in this small city. The Barbican district is wonderful. The Tourist Information Center is full of extremely helpful and thoughtful personnel. Try and stay for a minimum of three days—much to see and do.

Great location not far from Plymouth Hoe and walkable to the Barbican area . Beautifully decorated boutique hotel with enormous attention to detail . Nods to the past but with a contemporary feel . Extremely comfortable king size bed and the breakfast was excellent . The owners couldn't have been more friendly and helpful: they were the best hosts I have come across in my travels - and the Pimms we had in the bar was delicious!
Lovely old Victorian hotel, would recommend staying here if visiting Plymouth as it is in walking distance of the Historic dockyards, Plymouth Hoe and the City Centre. Parking is limited at the back of the hotel, but we managed to park there. There is a small charge to park, plenty of other parking on the side roads, Get the Ringo app which makes it easier to pay for parking in Plymouth
Really enjoyed our stay at Drake Hotel. I would even go as far as saying it's one of the best hotels I've stayed in for the price. The staff were very helpful, and car parking is a bonus. Will definitely be staying there again when I go into Plymouth for a night out.
Breakfast provided an excellent selection and wide choice !
Plymouth Hoe, is a very much underrated World iconic location featuring your wonderful hotel!
