The staff were friendly and helpful to the max. Breakfast had hot and cold offerings, including a wonderful fruit salad. The Imperial was a short walk to the Hoe; a slightly longer walk to downtown Plymouth. The bed was comfortable. The shower was hot and strong.

Amazing hotel. Rooms are big enough, clean, bathroom exceptional with shower and bath. Provided with all necessary for a comfortable stance, kettle, coffee, tea, milk, warm and cosy. Bed was bigger that I've ever seen. Swimming pool, hot tube, sauna, steam bath, was perfect. Changing rooms clean and with lockers to lock all your staff. Water temperature was perfect, and swimming pool was clean. Food is amazing, and breakfast was wonderful. Definetly a place I would recommend to everyone that is on that area. Staff very friendly, approachable, and welcoming. Loved this hotel.

Plymouth FAQ: Tips for every trip

Life By the Ocean Wave

From prehistory to the present, the very essence of Plymouth has been inextricably linked to the sea. The Pilgrim Fathers departed from here and named their new Massachusetts settlement after it, and Sir Francis Drake famously finished his game of bowls on The Hoe before combatting the Spanish Armada.

Western Europe’s largest naval base – HMNB Devonport – is in its natural harbour, and in The Barbican fishing boats bob up and down by cobbled streets lined with historic buildings. Jacka Bakery here is the oldest in Britain and there are plenty of galleries, bars and restaurants, though Union Street has the best nightlife.

At one end of the street is the Theatre Royal, and from the other ferries depart to France and Spain, passing the Mount Batten peninsula and offshore rocks that once housed Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse, now in Hoe Park next to the Royal Citadel.

Overlooking the park is the Lord Mayor’s residence, once home to Waldorf and Nancy Astor, and other street and building names are reminders of Plymouth’s illustrious connections.

Other attractions include the National Marine Aquarium, the City Museum and Art Gallery and Grade II-listed Saltram House. All are easily reached from Booking.com’s Plymouth accommodation, including luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap guest houses and country houses with parking.

Great city by the sea, loads to see and do.

Great city by the sea, loads to see and do. So many great places to eat and some excellent waterfront pubs and clubs. The Barbican is a great base and getting around the town and The Hoe is easy from there.

I love Plymouth Hoe, the Barbican, Royal William Yard, Devils Point, etc, it is very easy to get further afield by bus/train. The town itself is similar to a lot of places countrywide, lots of shops closed, but the regeneration of the city centre is almost complete.

Weather was awful during our visit so outdoor activities were limited. The Cosy Grain in the Barbican was a great breakfast stop and ClayArt for some fun paint your own pottery - would advise booking this though as it was quite busy. Ferry from Royal William Yard to the Aquarium which was good too and we also went to Plymouth Royal Theatre for a matinee show. Dinner at Rockfish was also excellent.

I only stayed for one night, after a gig at The Junction, a small but excellent music venue in the Mutley area of the city. Mutley has good services and facilities, including cafes and pubs. If you're into real ales, head to the Fortescue pub. But for a real treat, hunt down The Providence pub (small and cosy, with well-kept real ales) which is more off the beaten track but a hidden gem and well worth the effort. Both CAMRA award-winning.

The hotel has shops and bus stops located around it. We had our own foods from home. It was easy to get around Plymouth from the hotel. The hotel has a QR code which you can scan to book a taxi. The outside of the hotel has a massive secured space where children can run around. My children and sisters' had fun playing outside. There are comfortable tables and chairs to sit on and relax., both inside and outside.
